2025 Art and Design Faculty Exhibition August 18-September 27 Giertz Gallery at Parkland College Reception: Thursday, August 21, 5:30–7:30 pm, Gallery Lounge; Opening remarks at 6:15 pm by Dr. Isabel Scarborough, Chair of Arts, Media, and Social Sciences, followed by a gallery talk with Art & Design Faculty Peg Shaw. CHAMPAIGN, Ill.:?Giertz Gallery at Parkland College proudly presents the 2025 Art and Design Faculty Exhibition, opening Monday, August 18. This annual showcase, featuring the work of Parkland's faculty artists, runs through September 26 and includes painting, drawing, ceramics, metalsmithing, photography, and video. Exhibiting faculty members include Travis Keller, Paula McCarty, Melinda McIntosh, Josh Schutz, Denise Seif, Peg Shaw, and Matthew Watt. An opening reception for the artists will take place on Thursday, August 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Opening remarks by Dr. Isabel Scarborough, Chair of Arts, Media, and Social Sciences, followed by a gallery talk with Art & Design Faculty Peg Shaw, who will be retiring in the spring of 2026. The 2025 Art and Design Faculty Exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Peg Shaw is a Professor in Photography/Video at Parkland College. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, she received her Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including solo exhibitions in Chicago and New York, and has won numerous awards in both photography and video, including those from the Illinois Arts Council and Arts Midwest/NEA Regional. During her tenure, she received an Illinois Community College Trustees Association Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Award and a 40 North Artist Ace Award from the Champaign County Arts Council. She also curated several group exhibitions at the Giertz Gallery, including "Shift" in 2013 and "Flaw" in 2024. She identifies as a multimedia artist "who works with photography, video, sound, and writing, as well as mixed media such as paint, charcoal, dirt, leaves, thorns, petals, eggshells, hair, thread, wings, wire, and glass. The layered elements have both a conceptual and physical presence." Fall gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; Thursday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm; and Saturday, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The gallery will be closed Monday, September 1, for Labor Day.? To find the gallery when campus is in session, we suggest using the M6 parking lot on the north corner of campus. Enter through door X-7, turn left, and follow the ramps uphill to the highest point on the first floor, where the gallery is located. The gallery windows overlook the outdoor fountain area.? State Compliance Made Simple. Illinois employers are required by law to provide annual sexual harassment prevention training to all employees. This mandate—part of the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA) and Public Act 101-0221—applies to every employer in the state, every calendar year. To make compliance simple and stress-free, the Chamber is once again offering our Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Webinar—now refreshed for 2025 with updated content and interactive poll questions. Employers can meet state requirements by having their employees attend this training. What the Webinar Covers: This training satisfies IHRA requirements and includes: A clear explanation of what constitutes sexual harassment under Illinois law An overview of relevant state and federal protections Remedies available to those who experience harassment Employer responsibilities for preventing, investigating, and addressing issues What’s new for 2025: Refreshed, up-to-date training content Updated interactive polling to support engagement and attendance verification The Chamber will mail Certificates of Completion within two weeks of the webinar, pending employer confirmation of attendance. With over 17 years of HR experience, she has worked extensively in classification analysis, benefits administration, full-cycle recruitment and employee training and development. Liz holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute and a certification in Strategic Human Resources Leadership from Cornell University. She also earned a Master of Public Administration from Governor’s State University and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and currently serves as chapter president of the Central Illinois Human Resources Group. Group Lead: Ryan Scritchlow Purpose: The Small Business Owners Resource Group (SBORG) is a confidential, peer-driven forum for small business owners to engage in monthly roundtable discussions. The group provides a platform to share experiences, address common challenges, and gain insights from fellow entrepreneurs. Occasional expert-led sessions offer additional perspectives on pertinent topics. Eligibility Criteria Business Ownership: Must be the owner or co-owner of a small business. Solopreneurs (businesses without employees) are not eligible. Business Size: Employs between 2 and 30 full-time employees (excluding the owner). Meets the Small Business Administration (SBA) size standards relevant to their industry. Industry Exclusivity: Only one business per industry is permitted to ensure a diverse range of perspectives and avoid direct competition. Industry classification will be determined based on the primary NAICS code of the business. Chamber Membership: Must be a current member in good standing with the hosting business association. Commitment to Participation: Strongly encouraged to attend at least 8 of the 12 monthly meetings annually. Actively engage in discussions and contribute to a supportive peer environment. The Business Leaders Resource Group (BLRG) is a confidential, peer-driven forum for mid- to senior-level business professionals who lead teams, manage departments and navigate complex organizational challenges. Through monthly roundtable discussions and occasional expert-led sessions, members collaborate to enhance leadership skills, address operational and personnel issues and gain insights to apply within their respective organizations.  Eligibility Criteria Professional Role: Must hold a managerial, director-level, or senior leadership position with direct responsibility for personnel, departmental operations or strategic initiatives. Business owners are not eligible; the group is tailored for professionals operating within organizational structures. Small business owners, we have a group for you. Over the course of 12 weeks, participants will gain practical leadership skills, strengthen their communication and professionalism and build a valuable network of peers across industries. Through weekly sessions led by local business and civic leaders, participants explore topics such as leadership styles, strengths-based development, strategic communication and civic engagement. The program benefits both the employee and employer by investing in long-term professional and personal growth. LEAD Champaign County Mission To attract and empower the next generation of community leaders in Champaign County. To connect young professionals to their peers, local resources and opportunities for service, leadership and advocacy. To engage participants in creating a stronger community.
