Join us at the West Englewood branch for a discussion of Tiempo mexicano. "Wholeness and immediacy are the two traits that Fuentes highlights in Mexican Time . They are the antipodes of his own work", Pedro Ángel Palou, Revista de la Universidad . First published in 1971, over the years, Mexican Time became one of the most accurate portraits of Mexican idiosyncrasy, one where indigenous cosmogony coexists with the wounds from the Conquest, the hopes of Independence, the challenges of the Revolution, and the ambitions and promises of modern Mexico. Fifty years after its publication, this book still fuels reflection about the progress and evolution of a project of a nation called Mexico, and represents a mandatory companion to Carlos Fuentes' narrative, which takes time and its cycles as guiding principle.
