Mark your calendars to catch the Columbus bike bus on three Fridays in a row starting May 1! What's a bike bus? It's a fixed route to and from school with designated "bus stops" along the way where bicyclists from different neighborhoods and areas can join up with fellow student (and parents, if desired!) riders and the adult volunteers who serve as bike bus "drivers" on their own bikes. Learn more about the Columbus #bikebus (and the walk bus!) on the City of Edwardsville's webpage all about it .  The first bike bus to Columbus will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 1 (plan to get there by 8:25 just to be safe) at the Leclaire Park gazebo, 900 Hale Avenue, proceeding north by sidewalk along Hale Avenue, continuing onto South Brown Avenue before switching to the Madison County Transit Nickel Plate Trail. Where the trail meets East Schwarz Street, the bike bus heads north on Springer Avenue and then picks up the MCT Quercus Grove Trail. At the intersection with East Vandalia Street, the bike bus will head west on East Vandalia, veer north on North Buchanan Street, west on Douglas Avenue, then south on North Kansas Street to Columbus. ( see map on this page ).  Participants will follow this route to Columbus under the guidance of dedicated local #bikebus volunteers, and will reverse that same route, starting at the bike rack at 3:35 p.m. The bike bus (and well as a walk bus! that route is also on the bike bus page so check it out) will run roundtrip May 1, 8 and 15.
