Optional Care in District 65 is available on School Improvement Days (half-day of school, typically on Wednesdays). On these days, field trips or other special activities are planned for participants. The purpose of the AAYAA is to pay tribute to African American Youth who daily are keeping the visions and legacy of African American pathfinders and pioneers alive by excelling in the classroom and/or in extracurricular activities. Each District 65 school is asked to nominate two individuals. The award also goes to students in grades 9-12.
