Bring your haunting horror, sappy romance, blood-pumping action, children's lit., shining sci-fi, poetic pathos-- all genres welcome!The New Lenox Writers' Group publishes an annual anthology of their themed submissions which can be found on Amazon.At this time, Writers, We is conducting hybrid meetings. Enjoy pizza and drinks and answer questions on a multitude of topics. Form a powerhouse team or play by yourself for prizes!Please help us get an accurate headcount by registering your team in advance. One representative from each team must register to reserve your table. Registration is required and closes two days ahead of the program.Beggars Pizzaâs policy prevents our staff hosts from moving any tables or furniture for Trivia Night. Capacity is determined by the number of available tables. Most tables can accommodate teams of 4-6 players. Groups larger than 6 MUST make two reservations for two tables and should be prepared to split upon arrival. Join us to close out our fourth season with bestselling author Matthew Desmond in conversation with award-winning journalist, Natalie Moore.Desmond is a professor of sociology at Princeton University and author of the award-winning book, Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City. The recipient of a MacArthur âGeniusâ Fellowship, Desmond was named one of âfifty people across the country who are most influencing the national political debateâ by Politico 50 in 2016. His research focuses on poverty in the United States, city life, housing insecurity, public policy, racial inequality, and ethnography.Natalie Moore is an award-winning journalist based in Chicago, whose reporting tackles race, housing, economic development, food injustice and violence. She is the author of the acclaimed The South Side: A Portrait of Chicago and American Segregation and co-author of The Almighty Black P Stone Nation: The Rise, Fall and Resurgence of an American Gang. Moore is the recipient of Chicago Library Foundationâs 21st Century Award and a Studs Terkel Community Media Award among many others. There's a blood shortageâdonate! Blood donations will be in the mobile Versiti bus parked in the Library's parking lot.To schedule a time to donate, visit  https://donate.illinois.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/5603748  or Call 1-800-786-4483 Appointments encouraged; walk-ins welcome!Donation ProcessWho is eligible to give blood?Individuals aged 17 and older who are in good health and not experiencing symptoms of cold or flu may donate blood. Donors who are 16 years old may donate but must have parent/guardian permission. There is no maximum age for donation. *Donors must weigh at least 110 lbs to donate.Illinois permits 16-year-olds to donate blood with consent from a parent/guardian. These donors must be in good health and meet the minimum criteria to donate.Please refer to the height and weight chart to verify donor eligibility. By becoming a blood donor, your son or daughter shows great civic responsibility, maturity and community pride.Most medications will not defer you from donating blood. Before you make an appointment, however, check our medication deferral list.If you are currently taking antibiotics for an infection, you will be eligible to donate two days after your course of treatment is complete.There are specific requirements for gay and bisexual men, but people of all genders and sexual orientations may be able to donate if FDA eligibility criteria are met.Do I need to bring any forms of ID to my appointment?Yes. The following forms of identification with a photo and birth date are acceptable:Driverâs licenseState-issued IDStudent ID cardPassport, visa or green cardHow long does it take to give blood?The process for donating whole blood takes about an hour from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave. This includes registration, a brief medical screening, blood collection and refreshments. Collecting one unit of whole blood only takes about 10 minutes; however, you can expect to spend more time donating products like red cells, platelets and plasma (also known as apheresis procedures).*This is a community connection and is not run or monitored by library staff.
