More programs in this series are also availableif people are interested.            Canningwith Confidence: Pressure Canners 11am Friday, October 31 Pressurecanners are the only safe method for preserving low-acidfoods, such as green beans, meats, squash and pumpkins, and soups,stews, and broths. In this program you willlearn how to safely can low-acid foods and receive tested recipesthat help take the pressure out of pressure canning.

Dungeons & Dragons Club

Open to ages 13 and up.  No experience required.  If you can't make it for an entire session or can't come regularly that is okay.  Depending on timing, latecomers may have to wait until participants finish a battle before getting to join the campaign.

Home School Club will take place on the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 AM. Children of all ages are welcome to attend, but our lessons are geared toward ages 4-12. This fall we are focusing on medieval history! Take a look at the lesson plans for the fall semester below: September 2nd 10:00 AM - Medieval Heraldry  Learn about medieval knights and their coats of arms. We’ll also design customized heraldry to take home!  October 7th 10:00 AM - Medieval Medicine Learn all about the practice of herbalism and the strange (and sometimes dangerous!) cures for medieval ailments. We’ll also create our own medieval remedies using ingredients from the time. This lesson is suitable for ages 4-12. November 2nd 10:00 AM - Medieval Cooking  In this lesson we’ll learn about the daily diets of medieval peasants and lords. We’ll also cook some historical dessert recipes to taste test! This lesson is suitable for ages 4-12. December 2nd 10:00AM - Medieval Scribes Join us to learn about the roles of scribes in medieval society. We’ll also bind our own books and make homemade ink and quills to practice calligraphy.

Guest storyteller Rachel Schmalz from UIUC’s Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center will read Ellie’s Voice: or Trööömmmpffff by Piret Raud, translated by Adam Cullen. After the story, children can make a craft inspired by the book. Rachel Schmalz is a graduate student at the University of Illinois and works with the outreach team at the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center. She loves sharing fun stories and activities that help kids learn about different places around the world.
