Event Description:: On January 27, 1937 the Ohio River was flooding, and reached record levels. Water devastated communities on both sides of the river. Rose Island, an amusement park on a peninsula north of Fourteenmile Creek upstream from Louisville, featured a hotel, cabins, dance hall, and swimming pool. It was well-loved and used by Hoosiers and Kentuckians alike. It was destroyed by the flood and would never recover. The site is now part of Charlestown State Park. We have recreated the main path through the grounds, and you can visit to see interpretive signs and some remnants of the amusement park.
