Event Description:Cagles Mill Lake was the first flood control lake in Indiana. In the 19th century the area was inhabited by Miami, Potawatomi, and Shawnee. The Ten OClock Line Treaty of 1809 gave pioneers land south and west of a line established by the shadow of a tree at ten oclock in the morning. This line crossed what is now the Lieber State Recreation Area and Lower Cataract Falls. With that treaty and the Treaty of 1818, land in the area opened for white settlement.
