Ready to help boost your child’s kindergarten readiness before they start school in the fall? KiPS is a “jumpstart” into kindergarten program presented by the Jay County Public Library and sponsored by The Portland Foundation, Jay Schools, and the library. Children who are eligible for kindergarten in 2026-2027 and who will be attending any school in Jay County may be registered for this program. KiPS will be held every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the library, starting June 3 and ending July 15. Visit the library’s website, www.jaycpl.lib.in.us or come to the library for registration forms and information.  Call the library at 260-726-7890 for details. Registration deadline is May 9, 2026.

Bring your children ages 3-8 to the Jay County 4-H Fair gazebo for Books in the Barn! Each family will leave with a copy of the book we read, thanks to the Jay County Farm Bureau, Inc.! Older children are welcome to attend, although the books we will be reading are geared towards the ages listed above. Following the reading, there will be activities and an up-close encounter with the animal in the story. This program is being offered in coordination with Purdue Extension, Jay County Farm Bureau, Inc., Jay County Public Library, and Jay County 4-H. No registration is required. June 29 @ 10 AM (Dairy Cows) June 30 @ 10 AM (Horses)

Are you ready for some outdoor fun? Kids of all ages are invited to a foam party on Monday, July 6 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Kids will have an opportunity to enjoy playing in foam and other water activities. To ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience, sign up is required to attend.  Families will sign up for one of the following 15-minute slots to participate in the foam area: 10:00-10:15, 10:20-10:35, 10:40-10:55, 11:00-11:15, 11:20-11:35, and 11:40-11:55. Participants may enjoy other activities when they are not in the foam area. Upon arriving, please check with library staff to sign a waiver and receive a wrist band for your designated time slot. *Adult supervision is required for young children in the foam. Swimsuits, light clothing, water shoes, and back strap sandals are suitable to wear. Towels are also highly recommended. Please call the library to sign up and if you have any questions.
