In celebration of 30 years on Ship Street, JCPL is excited to announce fine forgiveness, which will be going on for the entire month of October! With the exception of fines and fees that are owed to other Evergreen libraries, we will be forgiving all fines and fees¾including for lost and damaged items¾on your library card account. This opportunity is open to all JCPL library card holders who come into the library, active or inactive, regardless of the amount of fines and fees owed! So, if fines and fees have been keeping you away, take advantage of this limited-time program–we would love to have you back!

Bookworms in a Jar

Kids of all ages are invited to the children’s area from October 5-17 to see if you can guess how many bookworms (gummy worms) are in a jar! Closest guess wins the jar! Winner will be chosen and contacted on October 19.

Purdue Extension Jay County, Jay County Farm Bureau, Inc., and the library are partnering to provide an Autumn Farm Foods interactive, family event on Thursday, October 8 from 5-7 p.m. Join us for a come and go, hands-on event featuring simple, easy-to-make recipes with favorite fall flavors. Kids will have a chance to make apple nachos, pumpkin pie in a cup, apple salsa, seasoned pumpkin seeds, and more!  Throughout the event, kids will gather recipe cards and leave with a mini cookbook to recreate the recipes at home. Registration is not required, but please call or visit the library to let us know if you plan to attend so we can plan our grocery list accordingly. Thank you!

Families are invited to gather for the 2nd Great Pumpkin Decorating Contest on October 15 at the library! Sign up for one of two sessions from 4-5 p.m. or 6-7 p.m. Each family will receive one pumpkin to decorate together using a variety of supplies provided by the library. Families will have one hour to decorate their pumpkin, while they enjoy watching the movie It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Popcorn and other activities will be provided. A photo will be taken of each pumpkin, and photos will be displayed in the library and on Facebook for voting between October 19 & 23. The winner will receive a family fun activity basket! Registration is required and space is limited. Special thanks to Jay County Farm Bureau, Inc. for providing this year’s pumpkins!

Trick-or-Treat at the Library!

Celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 30 from 5-7 p.m. and stop by the library as part of the Merchant Trick-or-Treat Night. Kids will get some free candy and a free book, while supplies last. Happy Halloween!
