Would you care for a game of chess?  Join fellow players at the Cedar Falls Public Library's meeting room (2nd floor) to meet your next opponent.  The club meets regularly on the 3rd Monday of each month. This gathering is open to all ages, but a firm grasp of chess is expected from all players as there is no formal instruction. No registration is required. The library's Safe Child Policy applies to all programs - children under 11 will need a responsible caregiver present and in the room with them at all times.

Community Nature Quest Open Studio at the Hearst Center Come together to create, reflect, and share with others participating in the Community Nature Quest! We will be meeting in the Hearst Center Classroom. Adults 18+ Join us for a year long collaboration between the Hearst Center and the Cedar Falls Public Library encouraging creative engagement with our outdoor spaces. Participants will be guided on a personal Nature Quest by selecting from a series of monthly workshops and open studio classes (locations will be shared between the Hearst and the Library) hosted by artists and field experts throughout the seasons. Open studio sessions will encourage participants to create and reflect in personal journals using a variety of prompts from How To Be An Explorer of the World by Keri Smith (each participant will receive a free copy while supplies last) with social time geared towards cultivating a sense of community. Materials will be provided. As the program ends upon one year of seasonal change, all participants will be invited to show their work at the Hearst and Cedar Falls Library. This program is made possible through the Cedar Falls Community Foundation.

Each week, teens will get the opportunity to make a craft, enjoy a slushy or seasonal drink, or engage in some other way to relax in the middle of a long week of school.  Drop-in style, so come when you can and stay for however long youâd like.  Come ready to create, unwind, and enjoy your midweek to the fullest! It's time to celebrate the Gift of Giving!  This December, join us on the first 3 Saturdays of the month for some handmade fun centered around holiday gift-giving! Join us in the Co-lab on December 20th to decorate an eco-friendly, reusable gift bag!  All materials will be provided for you to decorate your own drawstring bag, which can be used in place of traditional giftwrap or makes a great gift all by itself! This program is intended for adults and families.  All materials will be provided.  Acrylic paint and ink can stain clothing, so please dress accordingly.  Register to drop-in anytime during either the morning (9:30-11:30AM) or afternoon (2-4PM) session.  Walk-ins are welcome as long as supplies last!
