The Iowa Storytelling Festival is an annual event that occurs at the end of summer reading. This year brings a renewed program in partnership with Ventura Public Library, Meservey Public Library, and Rockwell Public Library. The event includes a local author fair (with Three Bells Books on site to represent Iowa authors who can’t be there), a craft station, and a lunch, all in the Olson Building at the North Iowa Fair! With doors opening at 5:30 PM and live music and dancing from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, it’s an evening of timeless tunes, joyful movement, and community spirit. Held inside the iconic Surf Ballroom—complete with its expansive, historic dance floor—this series celebrates the golden age of swing and big band music. Whether you’re a seasoned ballroom dancer or stepping out for the first time, you’ll find the perfect setting to glide, twirl, and swing the night away. The Al Welsh Orchestra plays music of the big band era along with many of the most famous dance tunes of the 1920s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and beyond! We play the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Woody Hermann, Benny Goodman as well as music of the most popular dance bands such as Lawrence Welk, Guy Lombardo, Sammy Kaye, and many others! Since the mid 1950’s, the Al Welsh Orchestra, based in the state of Iowa, has entertained thousands of people annually, playing for many different occasions. Just as in decades past, the orchestra continues playing ballrooms, town celebrations, wedding receptions, birthday and anniversary parties, and dedications, among other venues.

Members of the Una Vocis Choral Ensemble have formed the River City Beer Choir and the best news is that you?re all invited to sing with them once a month with a drink in your hand. This fun and casual group will meet every third Monday of the month at Fat Hill Brewing from 7 pm - 8 pm. They?re using the Beer Choir Hymnal, which has various drinking songs and folksy melodies with alternate lyrics. There will be sheet music provided. No need to sign up or register, just show up. Ages 21+. Bring your friends! This is a free event.

Join us for a one-hour session focused on the history and logistics of the North Iowa Band Festival, the region’s largest community event and the Midwest’s largest free marching band competition. This session will provide an overview of the planning process, including the roles of various subcommittees and what it looks like to serve on the organizing committee. Attendees will hear from current committee members, learn about volunteer opportunities, and have a chance to ask questions or express interest in getting involved. Participants will be provided with pizza!  Whether you're considering joining the team or simply want to better understand how the festival operates, this session offers a clear and practical look behind the scenes.

Held inside the iconic Surf Ballroom—complete with its expansive, historic dance floor—this series celebrates the golden age of swing and big band music. Whether you’re a seasoned ballroom dancer or stepping out for the first time, you’ll find the perfect setting to glide, twirl, and swing the night away. The Lonny Lynn Orchestra is a ballroom dance band - playing music from the 30's to the present with some Country and Latin. The band consists of ten musicians and a female vocalist. The orchestra has been performing since 1983. The orchestra plays venues such as club dances, anniversary and wedding receptions, city functions and concerts in the park. Each winter, the Orchestra performs at resorts in Arizona. They've also played aboard eight cruise ships in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, the Mexican Riviera, Canada and New England. Many of their dancing friends have joined them on these wonderful cruises. Lonny, in partnership with the Starlite Ballroom in Wahoo, Nebraska, hosts Big Band Fests twice a year. These dances feature the Lonny Lynn Orchestra in addition to a guest band - providing five hours of continuous dancing music! Some of the many orchestras that have shared the stage are Russ Morgan, Jan Garber, Dick Jurgens, and Guy Lombardo. The orchestra has been the back-up band for stars of the Lawrence Welk show - Clay and Sally Hart, Mary Lou Metzger, Ralna English and Guy Hovis. They have also performed the pre-show for the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Guy Lombardo Orchestra. The Lonny Lynn Orchestra has produced five recordings.
