That's why our Community Assistance School Lunch Program originally started. New this year, to help support these efforts, Derby Public Schools and the Derby Rotary Club are joining forces for a Community Garage Sale with a Purpose: No Child Goes Hungry.This special event, set to coincide with Derby's city-wide garage sale weekend, is more than just an opportunity to declutter or find a great deal-it's a chance for our community to come together to ensure that every student has access to a nutritious school meal, regardless of their financial situation. Community-Wide Garage Sale, 222 E. Madison, Derby Thursday, June 5, 6:30AM-6PMFriday, June 6, 6:30AM-5PMSaturday, June 7, 6:30AM-4PMAll proceeds will directly support the  Community Assistance Lunch Program , which provides meal funds for students in need. This is an opportunity for each of us to make a real difference in the lives of local children-one purchase, one donation or one volunteer shift at a time. There are a few ways to get involved: * Donate Items*:  Gently used clothing, household goods, furniture and other items can be contributed to the sale. Find  more information  on eligible items to donate, including drop-off dates.* Volunteer:  Help with setup, organization and sales to ensure a successful fundraising effort. We are also looking for any student groups willing to serve. If interested, please complete this volunteer interest form  HERE .* Spread the Word:  Share this event with friends, neighbors and colleagues to encourage community participation. Free Summer Meal Kits Available for Children Ages 1-18, June 3-July 29 Derby Public Schools is once again offering free summer meals-and this year, we have made some changes to make them even more convenient for families!Instead of daily meals, families can pick up one meal kit per child each week, available every Tuesday in June and July. Each meal kit will include five breakfasts and five lunches per child, making it easier than ever to keep kids nourished during the summer break. Some items will require refrigeration and cooking. Please refrigerate or freeze cold foods after pick-up. Pick-Up Dates & Times * Tuesdays : June 3, 10, 17, 24 and July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29* Time : 9AM-1PM Pick-up location in Derby will be announced soon , pending USDA approval. (Location will either be at Swaney Elementary, 501 English St. in Derby, or the Central Kitchen, 610 E. Market in Derby.) Who is Eligible? Children ages 1 to 18 are eligible for these free meal kits. How to Verify Your Family Size and to Streamline Pick-Up: If you feel you might utilize this service over the summer, please complete this interest form prior to the first pick-up date. This is not required to pick up meals, but it helps ensure we have plenty of meal kits prepared. * Before the end of the school year : Visit your child's elementary school during school hours or the Central Kitchen (610 E. Market) from 8AM-4PM, Monday-Friday, to verify your household size and receive a paper with the number of children on it. You will place this in your vehicle. If you have this, children do not have to be present for meal pick-ups.* At pick-up : If you haven't verified in advance, you can still do so when you arrive-with your children present in the vehicle. Special Dietary Needs? If your child requires meal substitutions due to dietary restrictions, please contact the Food Service Office at (316) 788-8419 or email mlawson@usd260.com five days in advance.
