The History of Roller SkatingMarch 28, 20262- 3 p.m. in the Old Cowtown Museumâs Visitor CenterDid you know that the first patented roller skate had only three wheels? Learn the history of roller skating from its infancy of spools tied onto wooden blocks to the modern inline and quad skates. This lecture will highlight multiple disciplines of skating such as artistic, speed, hockey, and derby. We will discuss the touring group The Skating Vanities, roller skating in movies, and even animals on skates! The hour will end with Kansasâ roller skating roots.Admission for lectures is just $3/person. Old Cowtown members and volunteers get in free!

Theevent will feature historical reenactments, hands-on activities, andfamily-friendly entertainment set in the 1870s. Guests will receive a list of250 things to do at Cowtown in commemoration of the United Stateâs 250thanniversary. Visitors are encouraged to see how many things they can cross offthe list while they visit the museum during the Season Launch. This program is sponsored in part by the State of Kansasthrough the Kansas Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
