Join us for a  guided bird walk lasting about 1 1/2 hours, weather permitting. Meet in the visitor’s center.

Bring your binoculars and discover the birds that visit and live in Chisholm Creek Park. No birding experience is needed. Expect 1–2 miles of walking on paved paths. The walk will last about 90 minutes. Meet at the Great Plains Nature Center parking lot

Join us for a special benefit fundraiser. Activities include a hayrack ride leading to a bonfire at the sandbar. Hot cocoa and apple cider to be served as you board the wagon. Roast s’mores and hot dogs at the river and share your favorite stories with friends. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children over 6, maximum $30 per family. Cash only. Your donation supports trail maintenance and the educational programs of the nature center.

Our November program will be “Endangered Species Conservation,” by Mike Clifford. Mike Clifford is strategy director for Reverse the Red which is a global movement that ignites strategic cooperation and action to ensure the survival of wild species and ecosystems and reverse the negative trend of biodiversity loss. It brings together a diverse coalition of leading scientists, advocates, and partners committed to using a data-driven and science-based approach to assess, plan, and act for species conservation.

Ever wonder what happens to that stuff you put at the curb? Join us for a tour of the Waste Connections recycling facility. Tours usually last about 1 ½ hours. It is a noisy and dusty environment, so small children are not allowed. You must wear close-toed shoes safety glasses and hard hats will be provided. There is a considerable amount of stairs involved. That time was chosen because the machines shut down for lunch from 11:30 to 12 we can see the operation before and after that time and also have 30 minutes in which we can hear the tour guide better. Reservations aren’t required, but it would be appreciated if you would let Bob know if you plan to come.
