Camp Fido is a summer camp for kids that brings education, art, and for fun for kids with the shelter's adoptable dogs and cats. Week 2 of Camp Fido is for kids ages 10-13. Camp Fido is led by LIFE House For Animals volunteer and local educator Wendy Ridenour. Week 2 is from June 23 - June 27 from 8 AM - 12noon each day. Set sail with the Kentucky Historical Society as we learn about Kentucky’s various rivers, streams, and creek beds and what makes Kentucky’s water so special! Explore the Commonwealth’s waterways and see how water has shaped Kentucky’s people, land, and culture over time. From native people, the introduction of locks and dams, and even the effects of floods, we will learn about our relationship to water through hands-on activities and firsthand accounts of water professionals. Come out to the LIFE House For Animals (14 Fido Ct, Frankfort, KY 40601) on Wednesday, July 2nd @ 5:30 PM ET to check out a dog for the evening. We welcome adults, kids (with adult supervision), potential adopters - anyone - to come out to get some exercise for yourself and our canine guests. You can take a dog out for a walk around our facility, or you can take a dog out to the park, to Starbucks for a pup cup, to Feeders Supply, downtown Frankfort - the choice is yours! We ask that you bring the dog back by 7 PM ET. We will harness the dog for you and give you a bag of treats, poop bags, water bowl and water bottle, and contact info for LIFE House For Animals. The Doggy Book Club events are ideal for kids ages 7-11 but don't worry - we don't ID! Any child or teen is welcome to participate. From 10 AM - 12noon every Thursday in June and July, kids can come to the LIFE House For Animals shelter with an adult to read to our dogs (or cats). Kids can bring whatever book they want and can work with our Doggy Book Club volunteer to find the perfect dog (or cat) who will listen attentively to them read out loud. Kids can read for however long they'd like during the 2 hour timeframe of the event. Kids will also make a craft! No RSVP is required and the event is free. July dates are: - 7/3 - 7/10 - 7/17 - 7/24 - 7/31
