Join us for Breakfast with the Beasts, where you’ll have the chance to enjoy a morning meal while observing and learning about the fascinating world of polar bears Wake up with some of your favorite animals in this program that brings a special look into how our animals start the day. Tickets include a hot breakfast featuring a waffle bar (Belgian waffles, assorted toppings, sausage links, fresh brewed coffee, orange juice and water), parking and admission for the day at the Zoo. Plus, the chance to ask all your questions to our knowledgeable staff! Breakfast will occur near the featured animals’ exhibit area and all programs will feature an exclusive keeper talk along with a chance to create enrichment for one of the Zoo’s animals! Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional celebration in Mexico and many other cultures to honor and remember loved ones who have passed. It is a vibrant and heartfelt tradition and a joyful celebration of the life, memory, and connections we had with those who have passed. As part of the celebration, families create ofrendas, or altars, decorated with photos and other meaningful items to remember those who have passed. Marigolds and monarch butterflies are also common themes as the holiday coincides with the monarch butterflies return to Mexico to overwinter in the oyamel fir forest in the mountains of Michoacan and the State of Mexico. Public SubmissionsThis year marks the Louisville Zoo’s first time participating in this tradition. As part of our celebration, we are creating a special ofrenda to honor beloved animals who have passed. Zoo staff will be celebrating Zoo animals who brought joy to our guests, inspired our mission, and touched the hearts of staff. We invite our guests to join us in this meaningful celebration by contributing a remembrance for their lost pets to the ofrenda. Guidelines for Honoring Passed PetsAs we celebrate Día de los Muertos, we invite guests to contribute to a special ofrenda (altar) dedicated to the memory beloved pets who have passed. This is a time to reflect, honor, and celebrate the lives of the animals who touched our hearts. What You Can Contribute(please note-items will not be returned. Please consider items carefully before submitting.) We will test our gross and fine motor skills, practice observation, learn interesting animal and plant information, and more! Drop-off is at the front of the zoo from 8:30 to 9:00 am with program activities occurring across zoo grounds between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm and pick-up at the front of the zoo between 12:00 and 12:30 pm.
