A GENEALOGICAL PROGRAM SPONSORED BY  THE ST. TAMMANY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY (STGS)  AND THE ST. TAMMANY PARISH LIBRARY   Hybrid Meeting: Program will be offered in-person at  the St. Tammany Parish Library’s Madisonville Branch in Madisonville, LA  and as a virtual broadcast for those at home  Louisiana has two National Guard Museums – one in Pineville, Louisiana and the other at Jackson Barracks in New Orleans. This program will focus largely on the development of Jackson Barracks Military Museum and Archives, including the exhibits and collections that are of particular interest to genealogists. The speaker, Beverly Boyko, will also discuss the history of Jackson Barracks: the reason for its construction and location, its design and architecture, and its relevance to the military history of New Orleans. Beverly A. Boyko graduated with a degree in anthropology, with a specialty in archeology, and began her professional career as a field archeologist and laboratory director for private consulting firms. In 1994, she began work with the U.S. Army, where she directed artifact analysis and cemetery surveys. After obtaining an additional degree in museum studies, Beverly served as Registrar for the Rochester Museum and Science Center. She returned to the Army in 2003 with a position with the Virginia National Guard, where she curated both archeological and historical collections, and began master’s studies in library and information science to broaden her archival skills. Beverly came to Jackson Barracks initially as Archivist and Collections Manager for the Louisiana National Guard in order to assist in the post-Katrina recovery of the museum at Jackson Barracks. She is currently serving as Director of both the Jackson Barracks Military Museum and Archives and the Louisiana Maneuvers Museum in Pineville.
