Artist Statement:In this series of paintings, I try to depict the relationship the people of South Louisiana have with the surrounding waterways and landscape. Through the use of color and figures, I am telling a story about the hard working people of this area who make a living off of the Louisiana swampland and river systems to support their families. I am from Morgan City, LA and the Cajun culture I grew up in and the surrounding area has heavily influenced my work. I try to paint scenes that show a slice of Louisiana life in either at hard work on the water or a reflective moment. In my landscapes, I try to capture the beauty of the swamps and the marshes of Louisiana. The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve present a Jazz Program featuring Kalindah LaveauxThursday at 3:00 pm At the National Park Service French Quarter Visitor Center 419 Decatur St New Orleans Kalindah Laveaux presents a music performance that includs jazz Voudou songs jurés spirituals and blues. New Orleans Voodoo Queen Kalindah Marie Laveaux is a native born Afro-Creole who can give first hand accounts of New Orleans tradition and culture from the inside. The infamous Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau and founder of the Sisters of the Holy Family Henriette Delille are among her ancestry. Laveaux was born into the bloodline tradition of Voodoo. She maintains the Laveaux Legacy of offering readings blessings and gris gris to the community and visitors of the city.She is also a singer who performs around the city and has an album entitled Soul Beautiful. Laveaux holds a BA in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans. Voodoo Queen KalindahMarie Laveaux may be most recognized for dancing in the Voodoo ritual scene in American Horror Story: Coven along side Angela Bassett. She has also sung and danced in several episodes of the HBO Series: Treme as a Mardi Gras Indian Queen. This program is free and open to the public.

He brings his trio to the park in a program featuring vocalist Saskia Walker and her interpretations of Louisiana Creole songs jazz standards along with a deep dive into the rhythmic side of New Orleans music.Jazz vocalist Saskia Walker moved to New Orleans in 2019 from her home town of Rome Italy to explore its vibrant musical landscape. She has since worked with many notable musicians in recording studios like Esplanade Studios and live performances at the Spotted Cat and d.b.a. on Frenchman Street and the Maple Leaf uptown.This program is free and open to the public.

The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preservepresent a live performance of  Arrowhead Jazz Band with Autumn DominguezTuesday at 3:00 pm At the National Park Service French Quarter Visitor Center 419 Decatur St New Orleans The Arrowhead Jazz Band brings together National Park Service Rangers and local musicians to perform traditional New Orleans jazz blues gospel and original compositions.The Arrowhead Jazz Band is anchored by New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Rangers Jade Perdue (vocals/keyboards) Hunter Miles Davis (drums) Kerry Lewis Sr. (bass) Matt Hampsey (guitar) and Interns Saskia Walker (vocals) and Tim Brown II (percussion/vibraphone).They will be joined by local musician Autumn Dominguez (saxophone). Autumn Dominguez is a versatile saxophonist vocalist songwriter arranger bandleader and educator based out of New Orleans. Though she works primarily as a freelance jazz saxophonist and educator Dominguez’s eclectic songwriting has recently blossomed and has created a new niche within her community. Her latest original project is an alternative blend of what she calls “sad girl soul rock” where her unique vocals honest lyricism and clever chord progressions meet her Bird-inspired saxophone playing.This program is free and open to the public.

Artist Statement:In this series of paintings, I try to depict the relationship the people of South Louisiana have with the surrounding waterways and landscape. Through the use of color and figures, I am telling a story about the hard working people of this area who make a living off of the Louisiana swampland and river systems to support their families. I am from Morgan City, LA and the Cajun culture I grew up in and the surrounding area has heavily influenced my work. I try to paint scenes that show a slice of Louisiana life in either at hard work on the water or a reflective moment. In my landscapes, I try to capture the beauty of the swamps and the marshes of Louisiana. The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve present a Jazz Program featuring Steve Pistorius & His Porch PalsThursday at 3:00 pm At the National Park Service French Quarter Visitor Center 419 Decatur St New OrleansSteve Pistorius is a pianist who creates joyful and swinging renditions of oft-neglected rags waltzes marches pop tunes blues and stomps whether he’s playing solo or leading a band. The New Orleans native has toured the world with his own band and with notable bandleaders such as Duke Heitger Dr. Michael White and Orange Kellin and at home can be found performing at venues ranging from classy nightclubs to the riverboats. Pistorius played with early 20th century jazz legends like Chester Zardis Willie Humphrey Louis Barbarin and composer Eubie Blake and brings their influences and his own authenticity to the stage.This program is free and open to the public.

The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve present a Jazz ProgramfeaturingSean Clark Trio featuring Saskia WalkerFriday at 3:00 pm At the National Park Service French Quarter Vistior Center419 Decatur St New Orleans Drummer Sean Clark studied jazz at the University of New Orleans when Ellis Marsalis was the chair of the Jazz department. He brings his trio to the park in a program featuring vocalist Saskia Walker and her interpretations of Louisiana Creole songs jazz standards along with a deep dive into the rhythmic side of New Orleans music.Jazz vocalist Saskia Walker moved to New Orleans in 2019 from her home town of Rome Italy to explore its vibrant musical landscape. She has since worked with many notable musicians in recording studios like Esplanade Studios and live performances at the Spotted Cat and d.b.a. on Frenchman Street and the Maple Leaf uptown. This program is free and open to the public.
