Arrowhead Jazz Bandwith special guest Catie RodgersTuesday at 3:00 pm At the National Park Service French Quarter Visitor Center 419 Decatur St New Orleans The Arrowhead Jazz Band brings together National Park Service Rangers and local musicians to perform traditional New Orleans jazz blues gospel and original compositions.Join New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Rangers Jade Perdue (vocals/keyboards) Matt Hampsey (guitar) Kerry Lewis Sr. (bass) and Hunter Miles Davis (drums) Intern Saskia Walker (vocals) and Intern Tim Brown II (percussion/vibraphone) with special guest Catie Rodgers (trumpet) for an exploration of jazz music styles.If there is a stage riverboat orchestra pit or choir loft in New Orleans Catie Rodgers has played either on it or in it. One of the City’s most versatile brass players Catie Rodgers enjoys an adventurous career that crosses genres and keeps the phone ringing year after year. Catie joined the faculty at Loyola in 2023 thanks to an endowment given by the late Connie Jones one of her former teachers. Catie hopes to inspire her students to carry on the torch of heartfelt music making and to train them so well that she sees them at all her gigs…on the bandstand!Catie Rodgers is a graduate of The University of New Orleans. She leads the traditional jazz band The Gentilly Stompers as well as Catie Rodgers & Her Swing Orchestra an 18-piece big band specializing in music for dancers. Memorable “side musician” work includes the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra the Latin Grammy Winning mariachi band Flor de Toloache NYC’s salsa band Lulada Club and playing with the daughters of Louis Prima and Judy Garland (Lena Prima and Lorna Luft respectively). Important mentors and teachers include Connie Jones Banu Gibson Matt Perrine and Doug Reneau.This program is free and open to the public.

McSwain now a New Orleans resident plays at clubs around the city has opened for luminaries like Patti Austin Ramsey Lewis and the New York Voices and has performed with numerous jazz greats including Marian McPartland and Houston Person. In addition to her stage work McSwain has taught at Northwest College the University of New Orleans Loyola University and the University of South Carolina. Her original albums include the 2022 Enjoy Your Space and the 2013 Wax & Wane: Songs Without Seasons with songs like “The Okra Strut ” named after the festival in Irmo South Carolina and “I’ve Got Peace Like a River ” a spiritual song McSwain grew up singing.This program is free and open to the public.

Talkin' Jazz with Fred Kasten:In Concert  with Phillip ManuelThursday at 3:00 pm At the National Park Service French Quarter Visitor Center 419 Decatur St New Orleans Talkin' Jazz with Fred Kasten: In Concert is a captivating blend of interesting talk and great music featuring top jazz artists in New Orleans hosted monthly by award-winning radio producer and interviewer Fred Kasten. This event will be a mix of interview and live performance. Fred Kasten is an independent contributing radio producer/host at WWNO. After working at WWNO for over 20 years as an on-air talent producer and program director Fred retired from full-time work in May of 2007. Fred is a native of Mobile Alabama a graduate of the University of Alabama and a long-time resident of New Orleans. In addition to his work at WWNO Fred develops independent audio projects from a home studio producing radio features commercials and podcasts. Fred also does marketing and media consulting for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.Philip Manuel is a distinguished New Orleans jazz vocalist whose poised polished and gracefully lithe voice has captivated audiences for more than three decades. Greatly influenced by Ella Fitzgerald Manuel brings warmth elegance and emotional depth to every performance. His rich baritone has been heard in countless settings—from jingles and commercials to international tours with Terence Blanchard and Bill Summers. Encouraged early on by Aaron Neville to take the leap into live performance Manuel has since graced stages from New York to Los Angeles and from Portugal to Paris performing alongside some of the biggest names in jazz.Often described as dramatic warm and full of soul Manuel’s voice is said to charm and seduce with an effortless range and refined phrasing. His 2019 album PM showcases him at his soulful R& B best featuring twelve original compositions and marking a bold departure from his jazz-centered catalog. Beyond music Manuel is also an accomplished actor writer and sought-after voiceover talent with appearances in classic New Orleans films such as Cane River and The Big Uneasy—further highlighting the breadth of his artistic reach.This program is free and open to the public.

The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Parkin partnership with The French MarketpresentsFamily Music with Johnette Downingon the First Friday of the Month at 11:00 amat our Dutch Alley Performance Space916 N Peters StMusician and published author Jonhette Downing’s Louisiana Roots Music for Children provides a culturally immersive presentation for children, school groups, play groups, and families about the rich musical heritage of the region from jazz to zydeco with interactive songs like “Who Got the Baby in the King Cake?,” “Today is Monday in Louisiana,” and “Give Me That Zydeco.” Johnette is the recipient of the 2017 Louisiana Writer Award. Her original Louisiana roots music is a joyful experience for children and parents alike, with plenty of opportunites for kids to two-steop and sing along. The author of twelve recordings and thirty books, she has performed on five continents.

Rossignoli folds many traditions into his music, from his classical music formation to his passion for Latin and North American jazz. He has also established his reputation in various settings and bands, including the EXTENDED trio with Matt Booth and Brad Webb, and by leading his own quartet. He collaborates on a wide range of projects with artists such as John Boutté, Jason Marsalis, Joe Dyson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Alexey Marti, among many others.This program is free and open to the public.
