Learn little known facts about some of Bangor’s famous—and infamous– residents during our guided tour. Hear about the importance of symbolism in the gravestones and get a chance to take in some of the city’s beautiful vistas. Built in 1834, Bangor’s 300 acre Mount Hope Cemetery is the nation’s second oldest garden cemetery. It was designed by renowned architect Charles G. Bryant as part of a national movement to provide respite from grassless urban landscapes. Garden cemeteries were created as much for living as for those who had passed on. This tour meets at the Superintendent’s Lodge at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1048 State Street, Bangor.

Movie Night at Mount Hope Cemetery

The movie will be shown at the historic Mt. Hope Cemetery at 1048 State St., Bangor, Maine. Gates open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 8 pm. The movie will be shown in the field along the left-hand side of the 1048 State Street entrance to the cemetery. Advanced Ticke......More

The movie will be shown at the historic Mt. Hope Cemetery at 1048 State St., Bangor, Maine. Gates open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 8 pm. The movie will be shown in the field along the left-hand side of the 1048 State Street entrance to the cemetery. Advanced Ticketing Required. Tickets are $15/person. Concessions will be available. Special cemetery tours available prior to the movie, very limited tickets available. Tour starts at 7pm. Parking is not available on cemetery grounds. Handicap parking is available by request in the cemetery.  Please email [email protected] after ticket purchase for parking information. Parking will be at United Technologies Center parking lots (200 Hogan Road) with buses to and from the cemetery. The first bus will leave UTC at 630pm.  The final bus will depart for the cemetery at 7:45pm. Buses will leave Mount Hope after the conclusion of the movie. There is a designated drop off/ pick up area outside the 1048 State Street gate to the cemetery. No outside food or drinks. No coolers or large backpacks allowed. Smoking, consuming alcohol, and drug use is prohibited on cemetery grounds.  Those found in violation will be removed from the movie with no refunds.

In April, 1911 a spark in a streamside hay shed ignited a fire that devastated much of Bangor’s downtown and threatened many of her neighborhoods. Join us as we follow the flames’ path and learn which structures survived and how Bangor and her people recovered from the devastation.This tour meets at the Bangor Historical Society/Thomas A. Hill House, 159 Union Street, Bangor. Tickets are $12 per person. In case of inclement weather, tours will be cancelled if there is a chance of thunderstorms, but not if just rain is in forecast. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time. Tickets may be purchased for a 6PM tour until Noon on the day of the tour. Tickets may be purchased for a 10AM tour until 6PM the previous evening. To purchase tickets or inquire about more information please e-mail [email protected] tours will be capped at 25 guests.

The Best of Bangor tells the stories of our first settlers, the greatest disaster in U.S. Naval History (until Pearl Harbor), the British Occupation during the War of 1812, the Great Fire of 1911 and so much more.
