The convenience of online tools is great, but what security and privacy issues come with it? This workshop will discuss the risks of using online services, and provide concrete, practical steps to help protect your privacy, including password managers, alternative web browsers, ad-blockers, and other settings and tools.Hannah Cyrus, Digital Media Librarian, will offer this class in-person in the computer lab at the Bangor Public Library from 2:00-4:00 PM on Wednesday, May 6. In-person attendees are encouraged to bring their own devices, or library laptops will be available. Virtual attendance by Zoom is also possible. This class is free, but space is limited, so registration is required. To register, use our online form below, or call Hannah at 922-6055.The library offers regular technology workshops on different subjects. All workshops are free of charge. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop computer or device if they have one they want to learn on, or use one of the library’s computers if not. Next Chapter Book Club is a community-based book club for adolescents and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our members (including some who cannot read) love books for the same reasons most people do. We all enjoy being transported to different worlds where we meet interesting characters and learn new things. Taking that journey with a group of friends makes it even more delightful and fun. The Next Chapter Book Club has chapters in the US, Canada, and Europe. Bangor Public Library is the only affiliate in Maine.This group meets each Thursday at 2 PM at the library. While this series is crafted with ages 18-30 in mind, all ages are welcome to attend. Registration isn’t required to attend (despite what is says below), but those that register will receive email reminders about the event.About the Series: Being an adult can be overwhelming. From budgeting to meal planning to seemingly endless loads of laundry, it’s hard to figure it all out–but you don’t have to do it alone. Join us twice a month for Adulting 101, where we’ll talk about finances, mending clothes, meal planning on a budget, and so much more. These workshops are designed to help you learn the skills we weren’t taught in school. While this series is crafted with ages 18-30 in mind, all ages are welcome to attend. Registration isn’t required to attend, but those that register will receive email reminders about the event and in some workshops, only registered participants will be guaranteed supplies to support their new skill.
