The National Digital Equity Center (NDEC) and the Bangor Public Library will co-sponsor a free 3-session workshop, "Windows 11 Basics," on Tuesdays June 24, July 1, and July 8, from 10:30-11:30 AM, in the library's Computer Lab.Learn how to get the most out of your Windows 11 computer. In this class you will learn about the operating system, navigating the desktop and taskbar, the File Explorer, working with files, using Microsoft Edge and so much more. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop computer running Windows 11 if they have one, or use a computer provided for the class. Not sure what operating system your computer is using? Feel free to ask at the reference desk on the second floor of the library and we can identify it for you.All workshops are free of charge to Maine residents, but space is limited, so registration is required to attend. Interested in learning to write picture books? Level Up at the library this summer by registering for this multi-week workshop.Picture books are illustrated books for children ages 3-8 and are often read aloud. Manuscripts are usually under 700 words. In this workshop, you’ll learn about what makes a picture book a picture book, different types of picture books, and important aspects of craft, as well as work on your own picture book manuscript.Together with author Meghan Wilson Duff, we’ll study picture book mentor texts, and you’ll have a chance to get feedback and revise your story. Participants in this workshop will leave with an appreciation for writing as both a solitary and group activity, as well as the importance of revision and allowing your story to develop. Beginning writers and experienced writers new to exploring picture books are welcome. About MeghanMeghan is the author of How Are You, Verity? illustrated by Taylor Barron and released by Magination Press, as well as, a forthcoming picture book with Barefoot Books. The National Digital Equity Center (NDEC) and the Bangor Public Library will co-sponsor a free 3-session workshop, "Intermediate MS Word," on Wednesdays June 25, July 2, and July 9, from 5:30-6:30 PM, in the library's Computer Lab.This class will cover the use of objects in Microsoft Word. We will cover inserting shapes, images, tables, charts, and hyperlinks. We will talk about how to format and style various objects and how to arrange them. We will also cover topics such as headers and footers, columns, and breaks. Participants should have taken NDEC's "Introduction to MS Word" class or have equivalent knowledge of the basics. Participants are encouraged to bring their own computer running Word 2016 or later if they have one, or may use a computer provided for the class.All workshops are free of charge to Maine residents, but space is limited, so registration is required to attend. Our members (including some who cannot read) love books for the same reasons most people do. We all enjoy being transported to different worlds where we meet interesting characters and learn new things. Taking that journey with a group of friends makes it even more delightful and fun. The Next Chapter Book Club has chapters in the US, Canada, and Europe. Bangor Public Library is the only affiliate in Maine.This group meets each Thursday at 2 PM at the library. This class starts with the basics of how to log on using multiple methods from passcode to Touch ID to face recognition technology. Apple’s iCloud service will be discussed, including how it will help secure your data and allow your data to be used across multiple Apple devices. The App Store will be covered to find additional applications that may meet your varied interest and needs.
