Join rangers on this unique program at Sand Beach to view and learn about Acadia’s amazing night sky! Dress warmly bring something to lie on and please minimize flashlight use to preserve night vision. The program will occur whether it’s cloudy or clear. Use of stairs required to access the beach viewing site. Need to Know:All traffic must turn left onto the one-way Park Loop Road when exiting the Sand Beach parking lotConditions on Sand Beach are variable. Visitors should prepare for wind cold and moisture. Please bring additional warm/waterproof layers and something to sit or lie back on comfortably. Accessing Sand Beach requires descending a set of stairs then navigating uneven terrain across the beach. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a flashlight/headlamp. Visitors should anticipate unexpected tripping hazards/beach debris. Program attendees will have sensitive eyes as their vision adjusts to the darkness. Don’t have access to a pond or ocean near you? Not sure what gear you need to get started? The wait is over! Join a park ranger for a two-hour program geared towards kids ages 7-15 and fish along the shorelines of Acadia. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The program includes the use of a fishing pole and personal floatation device.  All children must have an adult present throughout the two-hour program. Those 16 and older are not able to fish unless they possess a Maine freshwater fishing license.  Participants must wear traction footwear (sneakers, hiking boots, muck boots, etc.). Flip-flops and crocs will not be allowed. Make sure participants come with plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and hat. While being led by our amazing Volunteer Crew Leaders, you’ll help with important work like cutting back vegetation, clearing drainage features, building bogwalk, tread work, weeding carriage roads, and other tasks.Projects run from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., weather permitting, and no experience or reservation is required!

Hike up Penobscot or Sargent Mountain with a bag of soil on Wednesdays and Fridays, June to mid-September, 2026. Advanced registration is required.Acadia National Park, in collaboration with its partners-in-science, Friends of Acadia and Schoodic Institute, invite tenacious hikers to carry bags of soil to the summits of Penobscot and Sargent Mountains. This soil is integral to the ongoing summit restoration efforts in Acadia National Park.

Meet your hiking group at the Parkman Mountain Carriage Road Trailhead off Route 3 in Acadia National Park. Participants will hike up to the summit of either Penobscot Mountain or Sargent Mountain with a volunteer leader.

Hike with a ranger along the Ocean Path trail and learn about Acadia's connection to the culture, history and beauty of coastal Maine. This 2-mile guided hike begins at the Gorham Mountain parking lot. Visitors can park in the parking lot or in the right lane of the road with all four tires on the pavement. Trail is a mix of flat gravel and rocky uphill granite stones. Not recommend for visitors who cannot walk up granite steps. Closed toed shoes, bug spray, water, sunscreen, snacks and extra clothes are recommend.

Welcome to the Pine Tree State! Get to know some of the trees of Acadia. Join for a guided walk where we will learn how to identify tree species, and why the pine tree has become so iconic and symbolic for our region. Trail Conditions: We will walk 0.5 miles on the carriages roads, heading toward the East side of Eagle Lake. The carriage roads will be wide, gravel paths with little elevation. Be prepared to walk 0.5 miles back to the starting location of the program after the tour, or continue on your own walk on the carriage roads! Location:  Meet at the Eagle Lake Parking Lot near the restrooms.  Not the boat ramp.

Use of stairs required to access the beach viewing site. Need to Know:All traffic must turn left onto the one-way Park Loop Road when exiting the Sand Beach parking lotConditions on Sand Beach are variable. Don’t have access to a pond or ocean near you? Not sure what gear you need to get started? The wait is over! Join a park ranger for a two-hour program geared towards kids ages 7-15 and fish along the shorelines of Acadia. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The program includes the use of a fishing pole and personal floatation device.  All children must have an adult present throughout the two-hour program. Those 16 and older are not able to fish unless they possess a Maine freshwater fishing license.  Participants must wear traction footwear (sneakers, hiking boots, muck boots, etc.). Flip-flops and crocs will not be allowed. Make sure participants come with plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and hat. While being led by our amazing Volunteer Crew Leaders, you’ll help with important work like cutting back vegetation, clearing drainage features, building bogwalk, tread work, weeding carriage roads, and other tasks.Projects run from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., weather permitting, and no experience or reservation is required!

Please bring enough water to last through the hike. Limited to 19 participants. No dogs.Location: Beech Mountain. This soil is integral to the ongoing summit restoration efforts in Acadia National Park.

Hike up Penobscot or Sargent Mountain with a bag of soil on Wednesdays and Fridays, June to mid-September, 2026. Advanced registration is required.Acadia National Park, in collaboration with its partners-in-science, Friends of Acadia and Schoodic Institute, invite tenacious hikers to carry bags of soil to the summits of Penobscot and Sargent Mountains. This soil is integral to the ongoing summit restoration efforts in Acadia National Park.

Meet your hiking group at the Parkman Mountain Carriage Road Trailhead off Route 3 in Acadia National Park. Participants will hike up to the summit of either Penobscot Mountain or Sargent Mountain with a volunteer leader.

Hike with a ranger along the Ocean Path trail and learn about Acadia's connection to the culture, history and beauty of coastal Maine. This 2-mile guided hike begins at the Gorham Mountain parking lot. Visitors can park in the parking lot or in the right lane of the road with all four tires on the pavement. Trail is a mix of flat gravel and rocky uphill granite stones. Not recommend for visitors who cannot walk up granite steps. Closed toed shoes, bug spray, water, sunscreen, snacks and extra clothes are recommend.

Welcome to the Pine Tree State! Get to know some of the trees of Acadia. Join for a guided walk where we will learn how to identify tree species, and why the pine tree has become so iconic and symbolic for our region. Trail Conditions: We will walk 0.5 miles on the carriages roads, heading toward the East side of Eagle Lake. The carriage roads will be wide, gravel paths with little elevation. Be prepared to walk 0.5 miles back to the starting location of the program after the tour, or continue on your own walk on the carriage roads! Location:  Meet at the Eagle Lake Parking Lot near the restrooms.  Not the boat ramp.

Don’t have access to a pond or ocean near you? Not sure what gear you need to get started? The wait is over! Join a park ranger for a two-hour program geared towards kids ages 7-15 and fish along the shorelines of Acadia. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The program includes the use of a fishing pole and personal floatation device.  All children must have an adult present throughout the two-hour program. Those 16 and older are not able to fish unless they possess a Maine freshwater fishing license.  Participants must wear traction footwear (sneakers, hiking boots, muck boots, etc.). Flip-flops and crocs will not be allowed. Make sure participants come with plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and hat. As a Friends of Acadia drop-in volunteer, you’ll see a new side of Acadia, feel a deeper connection to the park, and leave this national treasure a little better than you found it.Our Drop-in Stewardship Volunteer Program occurs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from June through the end of October. While being led by our amazing Volunteer Crew Leaders, you’ll help with important work like cutting back vegetation, clearing drainage features, building bogwalk, tread work, weeding carriage roads, and other tasks.Projects run from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., weather permitting, and no experience or reservation is required!

As the sun goes down, some animals are just waking up! Join rangers at this family-friendly program on Sand Beach to learn more about crepuscular and nocturnal animals in Acadia National Park. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Looking for a full evening of programming? Consider staying for Acadia's Night Sky Program, which starts one hour after the conclusion of Twilight Talk.  Need to know:Conditions on Sand Beach are variable. Visitors should prepare for wind, cold, and moisture. Please bring additional warm/waterproof layers, insect repellent, and something to sit on comfortably.Accessing Sand Beach requires descending a set of stairs, then navigating uneven terrain across the beach. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a flashlight/headlamp.
