Intro to Watercolor Landscape with Rick Osann Wednesdays, 1:30 - 3:30 PM, May 7 - June 18 in the Kaleidoscope Studio Join instructor Rick Osann for a seven-week introduction to watercolor with a focus on landscapes. Watercolor is a fun and freeing form of painting that allows paint, paper, water and artist to play together to create luminous works of landscape art. This course is open to everyone and is perfect for beginners or those who are new to the medium. This studio-based course class will explore tools, materials and basic skills with the intent of finding each participant?s vision of the landscape. Over the course of seven-weeks, participants will cover visual art basics such as the elements and principles of design, color, light and shadow, basic drawing and perspective, and how to use them to improve our designs. Drawing experience is not needed. Participants will paint in every class, and will tackle more complex challenges each week and will end the course with at least one completed landscape painting. *No experience necessary | All materials supplied Rick Osann has been painting in watercolor since the early 1970?s. After various careers as a professional Scenic Artist working for stage, film & TV in New York City, and teaching art/theatre/film at Bonny Eagle High School in southern Maine, Rick is now happily focusing on his painting in Bar Harbor, Maine, one of the beautiful places of our world, in his studio adjacent to Acadia National Park. From his background as a theatrical set and lighting designer, Rick is most interested in exploring light, shadow and color in dramatic moments of nature through his painting. His work celebrates the beauty of the Maine landscape.

Practicing AYAMA will leave you feeling stronger and help to alleviate pain in the body. This is a drop-in class. Registration is not required. About the Instructor: Abi was born & raised on Cape Cod Massachusetts. Abi has lived and worked in the greater Ellsworth area for the past four years. In May of 2024 Abi embarked on a journey to Costa Rica to study yoga as Blue Osa yoga retreat on the Osa Peninsula. There she received her 200 Hour yoga teacher training certificate. Yoga has been a big part of her life for many years and she believes that the healing power if yoga is something she is called to share with others through her work.

Hidden color exists all around us, waiting to be transformed into works of art. Have you ever wondered how to utilize local plant species and food compost in a sustainable, creative way? Eco printing is the process of bundling and steaming both plants and food waste onto either fabric or paper, allowing the natural pigments to transfer to the prepared substrate. All of the colors, shapes, and textures that bond with the fiber come from the materials themselves. Eco printing offers unique variations and a world of possibilities that allow for full exploration, while mindfully collaborating with the natural world! Participants will print onto a set of mordanted fabric samples, including a cotton bandana, tote bag, and linen cloth. Create beautiful, one of a kind pieces that can be admired forever, while taking time to slow down and appreciate the richness and diversity of color dwelling alongside us. About the Instructor: Katama Murray (she/her) is an artist, educator, naturalist, and small business owner from the Blue Hill peninsula now residing in Deer Isle, Maine. Her mixed media work and company, Teach Peace Prints, are inspired by place-based making and our interconnectedness to the environment. While living and studying throughout regions of New England and the Midwest, she has always been influenced by the outdoors and the ways in which we coexist with the natural world. Utilizing locally foraged natural materials, she layers print and fiber processes to visually communicate ideas, observations, and perpetual experimentation. Through hands-on techniques, Katama teaches regional workshops focused on mixed media methods that encourage exploration and foster life-long learning. Katama is also the Visual Arts Educator at the Blue Hill Harbor School. With a passion for multidisciplinary making, she enjoys inspiring others to become more connected to the earth through the power of art and community.
