Learn how to turn everyday paper objects into structural pieces of art. Participants will gain skills in composition, recycled medium manipulation, and paper mâché techniques. Participants will begin by making a pizza slice sculpture from recycled materials, getting a foundational understanding for basic paper sculptural techniques. Then we will move on to independent projects based on each students’ personal desire with one-on-one instructor guidance. Participants should come to class with ideas for projects, in addition to the pizza slice.   This class is designed for adults of all skill levels, no experience necessary, just an interest in turning everyday recyclable materials into fun sculptures.

A basic and thorough introduction to drawing, working from a variety of still life setups. For those who love to draw, a drawing fundamentals refresher experience is a bonus. In this 6-week class, we’re going to take the "still life" to a new level. We’ll go beyond representation of the arrangement itself, to finding structure on the page. This means thinking about basic drawing issues: size and placement of information/ accurate measurement/ figure-ground interaction/ editing/ focal points/ compositional integration/ managed mark making. Drawing is about taking what we see and translating it into the language of the visual. No experience necessary, great for beginners and as practice sessions for those who love to draw! Community Clay Studio for kids is a NON-INSTRUCTIONAL time for kids 5 and up to explore in our clay studio. This is not a class, but a time to play and build community. Community Clay Studio on Wednesday afternoon is for kids only (we ask that parents drop off, wait outside the building, or in the hallway). Limit 10 participants. $15 per child. Work can be fired for an extra minimal charge.   CASS students can take the bus to Waterfall after school, with advanced notice. A legal guardian must use the parent portal, call, or send a notice to the school office or students will be sent home on their regular bus.

In conversation with the current Exhibition in Clifford Gallery: Transmissions, participants will be invited to explore fibers techniques combining fabric scraps, yarn, and embroidery thread to make their own “quilt”. We encourage you to stop in our Clifford Gallery to the right of the main entrance to see the work we’re inspired by! Writing prompts and materials for black out poetry will also be available. All works can be left to dry in the studio, but must be taken home by June 18th.   Drop-in/Registration not required. Max capacity is 20 people.

PRINTMAKING OPEN STUDIO (FRIDAY) @ Waterfall Arts Fridays, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST   Start a new project or finish something you have started. Don’t let your lack of studio equipment be an obstacle! Waterfall Arts has well-furnished and staffed facilities for artists of all skill levels to drop in and work independently on their own projects. In addition to providing a workspace and tools, the studios at Waterfall Arts provide a forum for sharing ideas, developing techniques, and experimentation, as well as an opportunity for building community. Artists working in all disciplines are welcome and encouraged to get involved. Drop-in rates are $20 for a 3-hour session. Maximum 5 artists during Open Studios. About the Studio Monitor: MF Morison hails from the west coast where she was primarily known as a metalsmith, apprenticing under Stieg Gusterman (Georgetown, CO) and Thomas Schlicting (Amsterdam). Using acid etch in many processes, she continued to explore this medium, resulting in attending S.F. Art Institute, studying printmaking under the tutelage of Michi Itami. While in SF, MF also worked out of U.C. Berkeley Open Studio and Fort Mason Print Department. Upon her arrival to Midcoast Maine, MF shelved printmaking for a time until she became aware of the Waterfall Arts Printmaking Studio. Since then she has been consistently enthralled and engaged with printmaking, primarily working with copper plate intaglio etching with use of embossment and chine colle. A 3-hour block of time with a studio artist present to give you a chance to start a new clay project or finish something you have started. They are held in our state-of the-art clay studio where we have all the equipment you need to drop in and work independently on your ceramics project, share ideas with other participants, develop techniques, experiment, and help us build a lively community around clay! Community Clay is great for folks who have taken one of our classes and want more time on a project or at the wheel; they are great for folks who learned wheel throwing or hand building in another space but their skills have lapsed and they need a refresher; and they are great for folks who have ceramics experience but lack the equipment to create at home. Join us and feel the power of clay! Ages 5+ are welcome but children under 14 MUST be accompanied by a participating adult.

Grab your pencils or ink pens, watercolors or pastels - whatever medium makes you happy! Join us in front of Waterfall Arts for the first-ever meeting of the Waterfall Arts Urban Sketching group. We’ll gather under the ‘Here Is Magic’ Mural and then spread out to sketch whatever tickles our individual fancies. After sketching, we’ll meet back at the mural for a throw down (sharing of our sketches) at noon. Everyone is welcome!   The goal of urban sketching is to tell a story using any medium in any environment. It is a direct observation drawing that works to capture a moment in time and the energy of the scene. It can be a quick sketch or a detailed image of a complex site. It is created on location using any kind of media. We hope this will become an ongoing meetup with rotating group leaders!   FREE! All ages and abilities welcome!

Join us for Comedy at The Commons — a monthly workshop where comics of all experience levels can learn, practice, and grow. Our focus is on clean comedy — humor that connects across generations and settings without leaning on off-color material. Whether you’re brand new or have been writing jokes for years, this is a place to experiment, discover your comedic voice, and get feedback from others on the journey.    What to Expect: - Fun exercises to spark joke ideas - Tools for developing your comedic persona - Time to share and workshop material - A community of comics cheering each other on  Cost: $5 per participant per workshop (helps cover space rental)  The Goal: These workshops are designed to prepare us for monthly clean comedy open mic nights in Belfast . Open Farm & Live Music ~ Friday, Saturday, Sunday ~ 4pm - close (starting May 22nd) This is a new option for our guests this year. The OFT (Open Farm Ticket) is an opportunity for you to gather with friends & family to enjoy a full evening of live music, visit the farm and gardens, stroll the farm paths, meet the animals, and take in all that a Maine summer evening has to offer. Guests are welcome to visit the bar and order from our thoughtfully prepared Apero menu. (please no outside food or drink) This option DOES NOT include a dinner reservation or indoor table, and is weather dependent. Tickets will be available on a weekly basis as the weather forecast allows. Check the Calendar to see the musician lineup for the summer. $20 ticket ages 13+   If you would like to join us for dinner as part of your full evening experience ~ Farm and Table ~ Friday, Saturday, Sunday ~ 4pm - close (starting May 22nd) Serving dinner Friday - Sunday, we offer full service dining in our historic hay barn. Our menu features our farm raised meats, hand made pasta, wood fired pizzas and local organic veggies. Our beers are local, and our wine list carefully curated with estate wines and producers using practices and values that mirror our own. *This option includes everything listed above with the Open Farm Ticket with the addition of a dinner reservation. Our early 1800’s hay barn is rustic and lovely, with large doors opening out onto to the yard and gardens and the vibe is elevated, yet casual. As always we encourage guests to make their evening a full farm experience by arriving early to explore the farm, enjoy Apero in the orchard, and relax to fantastic live music by the fire after dinner.
