Join us for a presentation from Deborah Nowers discussing the history and evolution of the burying places in New England, as well as the materials that were used for the gravestones. She will also talk about a project to document, clean, and repair gravestones throughout Waldo County. Deborah Nowers is currently leading a Daughters of the American Revolution project to document the gravestones of Revolutionary War patriots in Waldo County. While in the cemeteries, more stones called to her. All are welcome! This is a hybrid presentation, with the option to join in-person in the Abbott Room or to join online over Zoom. Library staff will have computers available to demonstrate how to use Ravelry.com and other websites to help find patterns and organize your work. Registration is not required. “Belfast, When the Cows Were Still Wearing Pajamas” will be the topic of the Belfast Historical Society’s meeting at 7:00 pm, August 25, in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library. David Ruberti, Historical Society vice-president, will take the audience on a time travel back to a gentler time in our city. The evening will feature a myriad of postcards and images of a bygone era in our little burg. You will see downtown, neighborhoods, churches, schools, businesses, the waterfront and some fun. David shall be your tour guide.
