Elton John and Billy Joel have combined to sell over 350 Million records worldwide. For five decades they have been a large part of the musical landscape, topping the album charts and playing to sold out audiences while continuing to receive heavy airplay on classic rock radio. Starting in 1994 these two legendary performers regularly joined forces selling out their worldwide Face-to-Face tours. âPiano Men â The Music of Elton and Billyâ is a tribute to the amazing songs of Billy Joel and Elton John. This concert combines a four piece pop group featuring Joe Boucher on piano and vocals playing with a classical string quartet with arrangements by Christopher Eastburn. Rarely have these songs ever been heard performed live in this way as Elton and Billy themselves have only on a few occasions performed with orchestras. The music of âPiano Menâ concentrates heavily on the recordings by Elton and Billy during their 70âs heyday when their many hit albums featured lush orchestrations. The concert opens with Billy Joelâs thrilling âPrelude / Angry Young Manâ and works its way through a veritable hit parade alternating songs between the two composers. It combines the skills of making a cylinder (body) a plate (lid) a cylinder (spout) and most daunting a handle. In this four-week class students will learn how to put all of those skills into one vessel that pours comfortably and suggests ease. About the instructor: Carol Herwig has been making pots for 40 years primarily at Jill Hinckleyâs studio in Washington DC with an emphasis on functional pottery. For the past decade she has taught children at summer camps as well as teaching adults how to throw on the wheel. Carol is a retired journalist as well as a certified arborist and a gardener. Carol says âMy classes are open to all levels of potters with emphasis on working on the wheel. Jud Caswell and Lisa Redfern, award-winning singer-songwriters and favorites of the Maine folk scene, will share the stage at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick on February 7th at 7:30 as a part of the Concerts for a Cause series to raise money for Oasis Free Clinics and Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project. Jud Caswell, one of the leading singer-songwriters on the current scene, has been performing in his native state of Maine and beyond for more than 25 years. He is a master multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, banjo, cittern, whistles and Irish drums. His interpretations of songs from modern acoustic to traditional folk and Irish are done with excellent musicianship, and his words and warm, tender voice portray his landscapes like Wyeth, with a reverence for humble beauty. Judâs originals have won many prestigious songwriting contests in the country, including the legendary Kerrville New Folk competition. His songs have been taught at Berklee, recorded by Judy Collins, and named â#4 Song of the Decadeâ by New Yorkâs WFUV. The single, âThe Great Divide,â from the album was the #2 song of October, 2021 on Folk Alliance Internationalâs Charts. With 12 solo recordings to her credit, including originals, folk songs, jazz standards, hymns, lullabies and Christmas songs, Lisa Redfern has been performing for over 35 years and has opened for some of her favorites: The Roches, David Mallett, Livingston Taylor, Cindy Kallet, and Pete Seeger. For 5 years she produced the popular âSongwriters in the Roundâ series and is an annual favorite at the annual Sweet Chariot Music Festival. A few years ago Lisa was commissioned to write a ballad for Penobscot Indian elder and WW2 hero, Charles Norman Shay, and was honored to sing it for him at a ceremony on DDAY in Normandy, France. Lisa was rewarded with Best Song by the West Coast Songwriters Association, two Parentsâ Choice awards, and was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest and the USA Songwriting Competition.
