APRIL BREAK: Musical Theater Workshops ~ FREE for Students Ages: 8-12 ~ April 20 & 21 Jump into acting this April vacation with a fun, beginnerâfriendly workshop series led by Broadway performer Michelle Bruckner. Michelle made her Broadway debut in Chicago, The Musical and has spent over 25 years performing globally in hit shows like A Chorus Line, Anything Goes, Damn Yankees, La Cage aux Folles, and Grease, along with roles in film and television. She currently serves as Theatre Director at Berkshire Lake Arts Camp in Hinsdale, MA, and teaches at both the Portsmouth School of Ballet and the American Music and Drama Academy in NYC. We are thrilled to announce an upcoming FREE Lafayette event in Saco, Maine, to be held on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, at 3 pm ET. This event will result in the addition of our 3rd Lafayette Trail marker in the Pine Tree State. General Lafayette visited Saco, Maine, during his "Farewell Tour" of the United States on June 24th, 1825, on his way to Portland. He was escorted to Cleave's Hotel by a cavalcade under the command of Colonel George Thacher (1790-1857), where he was greeted by Revolutionary War soldiers. Lafayette's visit to Saco featured numerous themes that Lafayette cherished, such as reconnecting with fellow veterans as well as passing on the story of the American Revolution to future generations. Many children from Saco and nearby Biddeford were introduced to Lafayette on the occasion as "the rising generation to whom we look for the continuation of that liberty which he [Lafayette] and his associates acquired for us." (Eastern Argus, July 12, 1825). The dedication ceremony for this new marker will take place as part of a Lafayette 250 function honoring Lafayette's contributions to American freedom as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The patriotic function will take place at 3 pm ET at the entrance of Riverfront Park on Front Street, not too far from the site where Cleave's Hotel was located in 1825. We would like to extend our appreciation to the Saco Government, the Saco Parks and Recreation, as well as to the Dyer Library and the Saco Museum, for their tremendous help with the project. Plenty of free parking will be available on site and nearby for participants. This new marker was donated to the City of Saco by The Lafayette Trail, Inc., with funding from the William G. This all-levels workshop introduces students to hot glass sculpting through the creation of a heart-shaped glass form. Participants will learn basic studio safety, become familiar with essential glassblowing tools, and work with an instructor to plan and execute a simple design using colored glass. Students will encase their design in clear glass and shape it into a heart form, with instruction emphasizing controlled sculpting, symmetry, and clarity. Because glassblowing is a collaborative process, students will take turns assisting one another throughout the session. Finished pieces require overnight cooling in the annealer and will be available for pickup at Waterfall Arts on a later date. Shipping is available for an additional fee. This workshop is open to all levels, and no prior glassblowing experience is required. Students currently enrolled in Introduction to Glassblowing are welcome to participate for additional practice, and more experienced students may use this session to refine sculpting techniques for non-round paperweight forms. About the instructor: Brier-Rose Werner Brown is a self-taught torch work artist who specializes in botanical jewelry. She has been blowing glass for 13 years. The Chocolate Church Arts Center welcomes The Soggy Poâ Boys on Saturday April 25 at 7:30 PM for an evening in the Annex celebrating the vibrant and far-reaching traditions of New Orleans music. The Soggy Po Boys native to New England have quickly become an institution. They are spreading the good news of New Orleans music across the northeast and beyond playing at concert halls and street corners music festivals and burlesque festivals bars and libraries wherever the party requires. Part of the beauty of New Orleans music is that it's celebrated and appreciated wherever it goes from the street to the theater. The Po Boys formed in 2012 to shake the walls of a local club on a Fat Tuesday but have honed their sound and become more than a Mardi Gras centerpiece. Exploring the vast musical traditions of New Orleans and expanding their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz the band includes traditional Caribbean tunes (itâs been said that New Orleans is the northernmost city in the Caribbean) as well as Meters funk soul and brass band / street beat music. An eight-piece ensemble the band thrives on collaboration and interplay creating performances that are energetic tightly woven and welcoming to audiences of all backgrounds. Megan Pinette, historical society president, will present an overview history of the many and varied items manufactured in Belfast, from axes to wagon wheels. Long before the mid-twentieth century, when Belfast was known as âBroiler Capital of the World,â there were factories throughout downtown producing shoes, menâs pants and vests, furniture, carriages, and bottled soda. The Belfast Historical Society presents talks of local historical interest on the 4th Monday of the month from April through October.
