An ensemble from the Portland Symphony Orchestra will be performing on Thursday, February 5.  Get out of the house and listen to some beautiful music while supporting Maine musicians. The winter Open Mic series continues tonight with Emcee Eric Lowe. Mic goes live at 6pm, doors for sign-ups open at 5:30pm. $5 cover charge for all, cash only. Mic time limited to 2 songs or 10 minutes or less (for poetry, comedy, story-telling), but depending upon sign-ups there may be a chance to get up to the mic a second time during the evening.  Cold drinks available at the bar, and our fantastic volunteer Friends group will have chili & cornbread & coffee & dessert available for sale – cash only, no credit cards accepted during Open Mic. Guitarist Walter Parks, longtime sideman to Woodstock legend Richie Havens, is fascinated by this historical music’s universal applicability and power and appears tonight with his group, the Unlawful Assembly including Ada Dyer, currently out on tour with Bruce Springsteen (November 2025). Once again we invite community members to come share their talent tonight – music, poetry, comedy, a winter’s project? Doors open at 5:30 for sign-ups and the mic goes live at 6pm. Mic time limited to no more than 2 songs, or 10 minutes – with the possibility for a second round at the mic depending upon sign-ups that night.  Emcee: Eric Lowe. Dervish has received a prestigious lifetime achievement award from the BBC, a fitting tribute to the band after over 30 years of recording and performing all over the world. Described by the BBC as “an icon of Irish music”, the band have played at festivals from Rio to Glastonbury. They accompanied the Irish President on state visits to Latvia and Lithuania and Prime Minister of Ireland on a trade mission to China as Cultural Ambassadors taking time out to play an impromptu session on the Great Wall of China. Dervish have a line-up which includes some of Ireland’s finest traditional musicians, fronted by one of the country’s best-known singers, Cathy Jordan.  Please read more at our website.
