Every Tuesday find food at the Sharing Table at Curtis Memorial Library, courtesy of Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program and the Merrymeeting Gleaners. This program is free and open to all. The Sharing Table, gleaned produce gathered by volunteers, will continue all year long at CML. As seasons change this local produce will be supplemented by other offerings from Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. All food will remain free to take. Learn to make a rag rug for use underfoot or as decoration. In this class we'll teach you how to use extra fibers to make a rug. We'll go over a variety of techniques and tools, but concentrate on utilizing what extra fiber you can forage, and easy to find tools and backing. Leave with inspiration from modern rug designers, knowledge of traditional techniques and the beginnings of a locker-hooked rug.Follow-along from home by registering for the online link, or join us in person! MORE INFORMATIONWelcome to our MECollab craft class series. You can expect to see a craft class each month at your local library. Each of these craft classes has been designed to use minimal purchased tools, many of which can be borrowed for your local library. These craft classes will also try to provide you with options to purchase ecologically responsible craft materials or provide you ways in which you can acquire your consumable materials for free.For this class you need the following:- A locker hook. You may wish to purchase a locker hook. You can get one locally at Halcyon Yarn in Bath. https://www.halcyonyarn.com/products/locker-hook?_pos=1&_sid=05df264a5&_ss=r You can also make a locker hook by taping a needle to a crochet hook, or carving a stick into a locker hook. We will explain how to make a locker hook during the class, but will not give you time to make one yourself before we proceed with the craft.- Rug backing such as a burlap bag. You may acquire a piece of burlap bag at the Help Desk the week before the class, or in person at the class.-Thread, yarn or a cut up old tee shirt. These fabric rags will be used to make the rug. This class will mention the following tools:A rug hook, a punch needle, a latch hook and a crochet hook.Check your local library for these items if you would like to do further crafts with them. We have them for check out in our library of things. Check your local craft supply swap for yarn and rags to make your rug. You may also find latch hooking grids, or ask for some old burlap bags from some local businesses. Often coffee comes delivered in burlap bags and many local roasteries give them away.
