Seashore Trolley Museum’s new Maine Central Model Railroad building is now open year-round! Stop by to visit this new exhibit Thursdays-Saturdays from 10AM-4PM this winter and spring. The building is also open on Wednesdays during Maine and New Hampshire school vacation weeks. More hours will be added when the rest of the museum’s 350-acre campus re-opens for the season on Saturday, May 3, 2025 for heritage trolley rides and more. Tickets to view the model railroad are $5 per person and children five and under are free. Seashore Trolley Museum members are free Family Memberships are just $60/year and include up to two adults and three children per museum visit on general admission days. The Maine Central Model Railroad is the State of Maine’s largest HO-scale model railroad. This beautifully crafted exhibit originated from the home of Helen and Harold “Buz” Beal, from Jonesport, Maine. For decades, the couple opened their home to guests from all over the world to view their model railroad. From Quoddy Lighthouse to the mountains of Maine, to the paper mills and Dragon Cement, street blocks representing the communities the Maine Central Model Railroad operated through and several roundhouses, tunnels, rivers and the ocean, their layout had it all. Best-selling author Stephen King even provided the designs of his Victorian home in Bangor to the Beal’s, and they replicated it expertly. Seashore Trolley Museum accepted the Beal’s model railroad donation in 2020 and began constructing a new building to house the donation, with thanks to a generous $3.4 million donation by Hansjoerg Wyss and the Wyss Medical Foundation. The building and the model railroad opened to the public in May 2024 and the model railroad’s winter operations allow Seashore Trolley Museum to become a year-round museum for the community to enjoy.

Take a ride on our heritage railway aboard restored trolleys from the early 1900s. Explore our 350-acre campus, three trolley carhouses, our restoration shop, Maine Central Model Railroad and many other collections and displays before and/or after your scheduled ride. Your ticket is good all day and includes unlimited trolley rides. We are open from 9:30AM-4:30PM. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy! Trolleys depart from our Visitors Center boarding platform at 9:45AM, 10:30AM, 11:15AM, 12:00PM, 12:45PM, 1:30PM, 2:15PM, 3:00PM, and 3:45PM.   Please join Seashore Trolley Museum as we host a Model Railroad Community Mini Diorama Workshop with multiple date options available this season: April 26, May 10, June 6, July 11, August 1, August 16, and August 30. We have 20 kits available each date so please register in advance if you would like to participate the event will be held 1PM-3PM on each event date. The $15 admission gets each person or group a single kit, as well as all the paint, glue, and ground cover you will need to make your diorama your own. We will also provide select scenery items, including dinosaurs, animals, trees and bushes, people, and cars. If you would like to add something specific to your diorama, please prepare that item ahead of time and bring it with you to the workshop. Each of the kits provided connect to each other, allowing people to make their own custom loops. On August 30-31, Seashore Trolley Museum will be hosting a model railroad weekend, and as part of that we would love to create a Seashore Trolley loop, comprised of all the different dioramas that our guests and members have made. If you would like to be involved in this event, please join us for a workshop, make your diorama, and bring back your diorama during model railroad weekend so we can show it off!

Calling all Mothers! Come out to the Seashore Trolley Museum on Sunday, May 11th to celebrate with us and get FREE Admission! Mother to a human? Free Admission. Mother to a pet? Free Admission.  Pick up your free boarding pass at the door, at our Museum Store. What do you get for the woman who has everything? It’s a challenge. Why put the family through all that stress when you can give mom a great Mother’s Day at Seashore. Take a leisurely ride on our main line out to Talbott Park. You can commune with nature as you travel the way they used to more than a century ago. If you enjoy riding these beautifully restored “time machines” on wheels you may like to see where the magic happens. Behind the Scenes tours of our Donald G. Curry Restoration Shop will be offered between 11:00AM and 1:00PM. Perhaps you have seen our work from the gallery and wished you could get closer. Now is your chance. Walk around these beautiful behemoths as we show you what we do. Get up close to these magnificent works of engineering and craftsmanship as we undo the ravages of time.

On the third Saturday in May we celebrate all persons who are currently serving in our military and all veterans with Armed Forces Day at Seashore. If you are not available on that day we are offering a second, expanded chance on Memorial Day weekend. More than just one day, we are offering the same “thank you” benefits for the entire long weekend. Considered the official start of summer, this is when the museum is in full swing and open seven days a week for the operating season. Memorial Day weekend is an apt time to thank those in the military past and present. Seashore offers our collective gratitude by providing free admission to both veterans and active military personnel. These dedicated soldiers will enjoy all of the amenities included with regular admission for free. This also provides an opportunity for those of us who wish to thank these folks, to do so. We look forward to seeing you all and thanking our service persons. So, if you are or have been in the military, come on out and let us show you our thanks. If you are a person grateful for the services and protections provided by our dedicated service persons, this is perfect opportunity to find many of them in one place. Now you can extend your appreciation in person.

Join Seashore Trolley Museum on Saturday, May 17 from 2PM-4PM for a New Volunteer Open House to learn more about the seasonal and year-round volunteer opportunities available during our 2025 season and year-round. In anticipation of the start of their trolley operations during their 86th season, the museum now seeks new volunteer trolley conductors and operators from the community for the museum’s electric heritage railway.
