Cheryl Perreault offers an opportunity each month to come together with others interested in exploring how poems can provide wisdom for daily life. All those interested, are welcome to bring a poem that they believe offers wisdom through life observations, story, humor or otherwise.Bring a poem that has particular meaning to you and share it with the group. If you choose, you can share the reason why the poem is meaningful. What is the wisdom of this poem for you? No previous background in reading or writing poetry is necessary.  The intention is to share the good guidance and wisdom of the poets we bring to the table with our cup of morning tea, grow our collection of life poems and also share them with one another.You can also come to just listen and learn and meet others who are interested in exploring how poetry can  offer words of wisdom and life meaning for all people. Bring your favorite mug and join us for tea! We will have hot water and tea ready for you. These meditative, gentle yoga classes will move at a steady pace, slowly cycling through a series of floor-based or seated asanas. Though one can expect a few standing poses, as well as balance exercises, we'll spend most of the class on our mats. While the intensity may be lower, the focus and commitment are high. This class is appropriate for all levels and ages or practitioners. Please bring a mat and any props you prefer. Limited mats will be available at the Library. Registration for each session you plan to attend is required since there is a limit on number of participants. Please remove your self from the registered list if you are not planning to attend so the spot can open up for someone else.Maria Lovo owns and operates A Welcome Haven Yoga Studio. In September 2020 she completed a 200 Hr. Yoga Teacher Training, through Yoga Farm Ithaca. In March, 2021 she completed a 300 Hr. Yoga Teacher Training, again with Yoga Farm Ithaca.  She is now a 500 Hr. Registered Yoga Teacher, with additional studies in YIN Yoga.  She is designated a Reiki Master Teacher and studying with Kimberly Beekman in the Inner Alignment System Coach Certification program.

Mostly hidden from public view, like an embarrassing family secret, scores of putative locks of George Washingtonâs hair are held, more than two centuries after his death, in the collections of Americaâs historical societies, public and academic archives, and museums, including Maine Historical Society. Why? Excavating the origins of these bodily artifacts, Keith Beutler uncovers a forgotten strand of early American memory practices and emerging patriotic identity in his book George Washington's Hair. Between 1790 and 1840, popular memory took a turn toward the physical, as exemplified by the craze for collecting locks of Washingtonâs hair. These new, sensory views of memory enabled African American Revolutionary War veterans, women, evangelicals, and other politically marginalized groups to enter the public square as both conveyors of these material relics of the Revolution and living relics themselves. Join the Maine Historical Society as Beutler recounts how ordinary Americans successfully enlisted memory practices rooted in the physical to demand a place in the body politic, contributing to antebellum political democratization. About the presenter: Dr. Keith Beutler is Professor of History at Missouri Baptist University and the author of George Washingtonâs Hair: How Early Americans Remembered the Founders (University of Virginia Press).⯠His awards include a 2003 Deanâs Award for Teaching Excellence from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Washington University and the 2009 Missouri Baptist University Distinguished Professor.
