This is a special Garden Night is our summer series as we also celebrate the opening of our exhibition In Nature’s Studio: Two Centuries of American Landscape Painting. Celebrate summer in the museum’s garden with our Garden Nights series—an inviting blend of art, music, and community held on the second Friday of each month. The museum stays open late, and the garden becomes a lively, relaxed setting for friends, families, and solo visitors to enjoy live music, great company, and the natural beauty of the grounds. Bring a picnic, a lawn chair, or a blanket. Some guests go all out with elaborate picnic spreads, while others bring sketchbooks, dancing shoes, or simply a desire to unwind. Come as you are—these evenings are all about connection, creativity, and calm. September 13, 2025 – January 4, 2026 As an early celebration of America250, our national 250th anniversary, this traveling exhibition on loan from the Reading Public Museum features 65 paintings by masters of the genre who portrayed the bounty and beauty of the American landscape from the early 19th century through the late 20th century. In Hagerstown, relationships and connections between this exhibition and the museum’s permanent collection will be explored and developed through the exhibition installation. The shift at the turn of the century to impressionism and tonalism, which led the way to abstract and expressionistic compositions in the 20th century is also represented. This exhibition has been organized and drawn from the collection of the Reading (PA) Public Museum.
