An award-winning multi-faceted artist who uses drawing, collage, linocut, and design, mixing analog and digital worlds. She’s the Founding Director of MFA Illustration Practice at the Maryland Institute College of Art is associate editor and contributing writer of the History of Illustration textbook and creates limited edition ceramics for Pbody Design. Her collective works represent her view of illustrators’ roles as makers and storytellers. Whitney Sherman will talk about five significant projects in her creative life mat have defined her career as an illustrator, designer, educator and entrepreneur. It will be filled with plenty of visuals and give an inside view of the life of an illustrator, artist and storyteller.

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, in partnership with The F.O.C.U.S. Trainer, Cherish McMillan-Kilgoe, will host Black authors from Washington, Garrett, Allegany, Frederick, and Montgomery counties in Maryland in our Juneteenth Author Showcase on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 2–4 PM at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. This special event celebrates Juneteenth by honoring the resilience, creativity, and literary achievements of Black authors in our community. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect, engage, and support Black writers while reflecting on the progress made since a time when reading and writing were punishable acts for enslaved African people. This free event is open to the public.
