Laurie Davidson of Mucho Gusto Spanish will lead this fun and exciting bilingual program for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers! Through the repetition of songs over a five-week series, children gain comfort and familiarity with the repertoire and the targeted Spanish vocabulary around greetings, parts of the body, animals, colors, counting, family, action verbs, weather, and seasonal elements of nature. Bilingual music and movement encourages playful adaptations of songs and collective creation of new verses that incorporate high-interest themes and accessible movements to expand vocabulary and create connections beyond the program. Young children find their voices through a variety of modalities of self-expression, including singing along, contributing to new verses, suggesting animal sounds and actions, and moving their bodies.  The program is highly interactive with puppets, scarves, instruments, and more.This program is free and open to the public. It will be offered every Tuesday morning in March 2026 and you can come to as many or as few as you would like.Registration is not required, but you may sign up on this calendar if you would like an email reminder the day before the program.This program is supported in part by a grant from the Athol Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Additional support was provided by the Friends of the Athol Public Library.

Veteran arts journalist Nick Zaino explores Boston’s long history of comedy, from vaudeville to YouTube, highlighting some of the personalities that have defined laughter in America for 100 years using audio and video clips. Eva Tanguay found her calling as the Queen of Vaudeville in Holyoke. Fred Allen found inspiration at the Boston Public Library to start his vaudeville career. Jay Leno, Denis Leary, Paula Poundstone, Steven Wright, Janeane Garofalo, Conan O’Brien, Eugene Mirman, Mike Birbglia, Bo Burnham, Chris Fleming, Sam Jay, Ziwe- all are part of the fabric of Boston Comedy lore.Nick A. Zaino III is a freelance art journalist, and creator of Boston Comedy Radio, podcaster, and musician. For 28 years, he has covered comedy for publications from the Buffalo News to the Los Angeles Times. In 1998, he started writing about the Boston scene for the Boston Phoenix and Stuff@Night Magazine, and took up the beat for the Boston Globe in 2001. The Athol Public Library is hosting its 5th Annual Tiny Art Show, showcasing miniature pieces of art from artists all over the community.Any and all creators are invited to participate - no matter skill level or age.Create a piece of art that is at maximum 4" x 4" (or that will fit in a 4" cube). All mediums are welcome including paint, pencils, pen, needlework, sculpture, mixed media etc. Pick up canvas paper from the library to get you started or use your own materials.Submissions to the show will be accepted at the library from April 1 to April 30. Pieces will be on display on the second floor of the library for public viewing during library hours from May 4 through May 30. Limit of three submissions per person.
