Charles Dickens was famous for bringing his A Christmas Carol to life for audiences for every year, and this version brings all the drama, comedy and redemption. Intended for age 11 and up.  This program is supported in part by a grant from the Athol Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, and in part by a grant from the Friends of the Athol Public Library!

December 17 - January 31This winter, Beanstack is partnering with Steps to Literacy to welcome all libraries across North America to join the winter reading challenge, which features Beanstack's very own Benny the Bean! Participants will earn fun, Benny-themed badges for logging their reading and completing activities. Our goal at the Athol Library is for kids to read a total of 20,000 minutes. Watch Benny climb the 20,000-minute mountain in the Children’s Room as we read our way to the summit! Kids who complete the challenge by finishing their digital BINGO sheet on Beanstack before the end of January will also win a Beanie Baby!Sign up today! Winter is a great time to cozy up with a book and we have a new digital reading challenge to cheer on our teen readers. Read any book, whether it is for school or fun, and no matter the genre or format it counts. As you read, take note of how long you've been reading. Turn the time you spend reading into prizes by logging your reading on the Beanstack website (or the free Beanstack App). The more you read and complete activities the more you win books, stickers, pins, candy, and grand prize raffle tickets. The challenge runs all winter long. Starting on the winter solstice (December 21, 2025) and running until the spring equinox (March 20, 2026). Teens ages 12-18 can sign up for free at any time during the winter at athollibrary.beanstack.com.
