Love your neighbor… donate to those in need! The Clapp Memorial Library’s Teen Advisory Board will be collecting nonperishables at the library in their second-ever Food Drive February 6th through the 13th. There will be a designated donation box inside the library during those dates. Donations will be sorted by Teen Advisory Board members on the 13th and distributed evenly amongst Belchertown food pantries. TAB is a group of 7th-12th grade students who meet monthly during the school year to propose library programming for teens, provide input on teen services, volunteer, and have fun. New members are welcome.

Our current RPG campaign, Vaesen: The Lost Mountain Saga & Other Tales, is a dark Gothic setting steeped in Nordic folklore and the old myths of Scandinavia! Dive into mysteries where old struggles against the new, and myths come alive.  No experience necessary. Welcome to the Mythic North – northern Europe of the nineteenth century, but not as we know it today. A land where the myths are real. A cold reach covered by vast forests, its few cities lonely beacons of industry and enlightenment – a new civilization dawning. But in the countryside, the old ways still hold sway. There, people know what lurks in the dark. They know to fear it. An ancient stone has been discovered in the dark caves of the Mythic North. Protected for thousands of years by creatures no longer walking this earth, these sacred stones were never meant to be found. However, as is the nature of human curiosity and greed, exploitation soon begins with little regard for potential risks or consequences. Players can expect to encounter ancient mysteries, old Nordic folk tales, social intrigue, and unspeakable horrors lurking in every shadow as they travel across the North and slowly uncover the truth. On Wednesday, February 11 at 7PM, join us at the Clapp Memorial Library for a talk from Belchertown resident and pediatrician, David Gottesgen, who is the author of a new book, Mending the Body with the Mind: Harnessing Kids’ Superpowers To Heal and Stay Healthy. Dr. Gottesgen will discuss integrative medicine in general, then talk about how he utilized the mind-body-spirit connection in all parts of his practice. He will discuss how children and teens can utilize this connection, in a wide array of common disorders, from chronic pain (specifically headaches and stomachaches) to asthma and other respiratory problems, to habit disorders like tics and bedwetting, to sleep issues, to ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, and phobias to anxiety in sports. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing.
