Join Tim from OWL Eyes Wilderness as we forage through the Wachusett Watershed. This event will start at the parking lot of Gate 8 of the Watershed in Boylston (42°22'27.3"N 71°42'57.5"W) and will continue through the Sawyer Bluffs area where we will learn about the most local, organic, and free food in our area!  Foraging is a growing interest in our society and more people are searching for ways to obtain food in a self-reliant manner. It is essential to be sure we are foraging safely, ethically, and without causing damage to our landscape. Every season and landscape offers unique and nutritious plants to eat and prepare as medicine! Let’s go on a walk and learn about the various plant species, and plants to eat or collect for medicine and utilitarian use. We will be hiking through varied terrain, on and off trail, up to 1 mile. Be sure to bring appropriate footwear, a notebook and pen! This program is for ages 16 and up. Ready for a new bag to bring to all your summer hijinks? Ages 16+ can make a tote at the library with our Cricut machine and new Easypress iron. Get creative as you learn to use the Cricut and iron-on vinyl. All materials will be provided, including a pre-washed and steamed tote for you to decorate and take home. Registration required.  This is a week-long event. Learn about the Cricut and start your design on Tuesday, and you will have all week to finish your design, print, and iron on. The Cricut and Easypress will be out and available for public use during our open hours from Wednesday-Friday. Join us at the library for the last evening of our three-month poetry reading series. Local poet John Hodgen is a Writer-in-Residence at Assumption College and has won many different awards for his writing, including the 2005 Ruth Stone Poetry Prize from Hunger Mountain, the 2005 Foley Poetry Prize from America Magazine, and the Chad Walsh Prize in Poetry for the best poems submitted to Beloit Poetry Journal in 2008. He has multiple books of poetry including In My Father’s House, winner of the Bluestem Award; Bread Without Sorrow, winner of the Balcones Poetry Prize; and Grace, winner of the Donald Hall Prize in Poetry.  This program is supported in part by a grant from the Boylston Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
