Two groups of plants exhibit such intriguing behavior that a century and a half ago, they attracted the attention of Charles Darwin. These same plants still fascinate scientists today. In two, one-hour films, Plants Behaving Badly reveals a world of deceit and treachery worthy of any fictional thriller. May 8: “Carnivorous Plants” ~ Scientists have recently shown that many more plants are carnivorous than we had ever thought. Welcome to the world of killer tomatoes and murderous potatoes. Even the more well-known carnivorous plants – sundews, flytraps, and pitchers – are revealing new behavior. About the Presenter: Trevor Roycroft, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus at the J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies at Ohio University. He has thirty-five years of experience in the telecommunication and information technology fields. His teaching and research have focused on privacy, regulatory policy, and the economics of the telecommunication and information technology industries. In addition to his academic endeavors, Dr. Roycroft has filed testimony, reports, and affidavits in over 100 proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission, state regulatory commissions, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, and in state and federal courts.

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Bird Walk & Talk hosted by CCMNH Field Guide Karl Fryzel Wednesdays, May 14 & 28, June 11 & 25, 2025, from 9:30am–11am. Bird Walk & Talk explores the birds of the season in 4 different habitats: marsh, meadow, woodland, and seashore. Participants will spend time looking for and listening to birds in each of these four habitats after a brief introduction to the Museum. The walk will also explain and utilize some of the latest birdwatching technology tools. It is suggested that participants bring binoculars and a smart phone. Karl is a CCMNH Field Guide, an amateur birder and a Mass Audubon certified field naturalist. He is a self-educated ornithologist with numerous birding certificates including The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Comprehensive Bird Biology Certificate. Peter Jensen, a regenerative agroecologist and runoff mitigation specialist at Terra Firma Permagardens (a BPC business partner) will explain how these terraces were designed with the vision of aquifer protection through ecosystem strengthening.
