Join Brewster resident Dru Lindgren, Director of Community Engagement for Find The Cause Breast Cancer Foundation, to hear how harmful chemicals may be impacting our health, how we can reduce exposure in our everyday lives and what resources are available to help with choosing safer products. About the Presenter: Dru is the Director of Community Engagement for Find The Cause Breast Cancer Foundation, a Massachusetts based nonprofit whose mission is to fund research on the environmental causes of breast cancer and educate the public on prevention. For the past 9 years, she has been educating people on the importance of cancer prevention, how it can be achieved and what steps individuals can take to live in a safer environment. Dru is a Brewster resident and a two-time breast cancer survivor. “When I was 10 years old, my mother handed me her folding Kodak camera. I found my tool.”   -Anne Marie Leone Anne Marie Leone is a freelance photojournalist and videographer. A native New Yorker, Ms. Leone resides in Ossining, New York, along the Hudson River – one of her photographic passions. In Westchester County she has been director of photography for Women’s News, staff photographer for The Rivertowns Enterprise, and contributing writer/photographer for The Scarsdale Inquirer, Westchester Magazine and Hudson Valley Magazine. A permanent installation of her Hudson Valley images hangs at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Kisco, New York. Her Notable Women’s Collection was donated to the Gender Studies Department at S.U.N.Y. Purchase. While Ms. Leone was an instructor in the Communications Media Arts program at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, she directed State of the Art, a cable series about art and artists in the Westchester, New York, region. This year Ms. Leone’s photograph, Stone Bridge, which she took at the Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Pleasantville, New York, was accepted as a winner in the New York State Parks Centennial Photography Exhibit. In 2001 Ms. Leone and her partner, Rennie Dorfman, while visiting friends on the Cape, discovered that “There’s Something About the Cape.” They purchased a condo in Brewster. The Cape and its environs offered a new palette for Ms. Leone to create. Using either camera or iPhone, Ms. Leone captures the essences of the Cape. She enhances her images with a “digital paintbrush.” Studying the image, she decides which texture - archival photo paper, canvas, wood, metal or glass - will increase its beauty. On the Cape Ms. Leone has exhibited some winning photographs at the Gallery of Orleans Camera Store in Orleans. She feels The Cape awakens all the senses and continually inspires her. Do you know that you can attract birds to your garden while also helping the environment, watering less, and reducing garden chores? Join Master Gardener Fran Raleigh to learn how modifying garden practices and introducing native plants can help support the local ecosystem and increase biodiversity. Because they are adapted to our local soil and climate, native plants require less water and other inputs, and they form the base of native food chains that feed birds. Fran will introduce you to specific plants native to Cape Cod that can increase the appeal of your yard to our native and migrating birds. About the Presenter: Fran grew up watching nature in her Northern VA neighborhood. She began getting to know wild plants during college in OH, and continued botanizing during grad school in Syracuse. She didn’t try gardening until she was settled, teaching college biology in NJ, where she soon began introducing native plants into her yard. She retired in 2018 and moved to Cape Cod. A member of the Master Gardener class of 2019, she is eager to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for nature and gardening.
