Join us for an introduction to the region’s thriving shellfish aquaculture industry. Shellfish aquaculture, or shellfish farming, involves cultivating bivalve shellfish like oysters, mussels, and clams in controlled environments for food or restoration purposes. Brewster and other towns on Cape Cod work together with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries to regulate and manage aquaculture. Learn about the species that are cultivated locally and the types of gear used to sustainably grow these valuable marine resources. You’ll also discover the economic impact of shellfish farming, which supports local businesses, tourism, and jobs in Cape Cod, while also contributing to water quality and ecosystem health. About the Presenter Abigail Franklin Archer is a Fisheries & Aquaculture Specialist at Cape Cod Cooperative Extension & Woods Hole Sea Grant. For the 2024-2025 year, she has been President of the Southern New England Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. All are welcome to join the Town of Brewster for music, food, and activities at Drummer Boy Park for a celebration of Juneteenth. Enjoy a fun day of talented performers, interesting activities, educational entertainment, and more, all in honor of Juneteenth.  Stay for the whole event or stop by for a quick visit!   Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in America and occurs on the anniversary of the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas on June 19, 1865, more than 2 years after the signing of the proclamation. Kick off the festival at the Drummer Boy Park gazebo for a re-enactment and reading of the Emancipation Proclamation.  Afterwards, you may choose to remain at the gazebo for a series of musical performers or you can explore the park and take part in some of the other activities happening throughout the event. You can also visit the Windmill for a special tour with the Brewster Historical Society, speak with local authors, enjoy a storytime with the Brewster Book Store, get information and participate in games and face painting at one of the many activity and information tables, or grab a bite to eat from the Encore Food Truck or the Chatham Filling Station Food Truck .   The day's performances will include:      Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation     Ron Williams (Jazz guitarist)      Fred Clayton (Blues musician)     Dance Therapy 508 & Drumming     Poetry from Tamora Isreal This event is free and open to the public. https://brewsterladieslibrary.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/town-of-brewster-juneteenth-celebration/
