For more information, please visit English At Large.  Registration is required to regularly attend conversation groups. Register ****HERE**** The Burlington Public Library has partnered with English At Large to host conversation groups at the library. English At Large conversation groups are groups of 8-12 learners who meet weekly to practice their English speaking skills. The groups provide an opportunity for learners to improve their speaking confidence and meet other adults who are learning English. All groups are free! There is no cost to attend our conversation groups. All adults who want to practice their English speaking skills are welcome at our groups. We recommend that you have at least an intermediate English speaking level. If you can speak on the telephone without too much difficulty, your English speaking ability is likely at an intermediate level. Conversation groups are not English classes. Our trained volunteers focus mainly on listening and speaking, and less on reading and writing. Drop-in for an evening of strategic tabletop fun at the Burlington Public Library Board Game Group. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or a curious newcomer, we welcome those age 16+ to get hooked on the amazing hobby of tabletop board games. 6:30PM - Formal Start Time (the room will be open starting at 6PM if you'd like to set up a larger game) We will have a bunch of tables and a bunch of games ready for groups to enjoy!  Typically one or two groups will play a "heavier", more complex title while another couple of tables will enjoy easy to learn party games and classics.   Guidelines: No registration required - just drop in! We will have limited dry snacks on hand. No drinks will be permitted at the game tables but you can have a beverage nearby! This is a program for adults and older teens only - we have plenty of other great events for youth and all the games we feature will be available for loan after the event to play with any group you'd like! This campaign will take place in the "Mythic Odyssey of Theros" setting, a campaign heavily inspired by the stories of Greek Mythology. Baker Meetup has arrived!   Adults and teenagers will gather monthly to swap baked goods, share tips and tricks, and learn new skills from other home bakers.   This will be a casual hour-long program for new and seasoned bakers alike!  Each month participants will vote and we will have a winner...and we may even have guest judges from time to time! No registration required for most sessions - just drop in.  If you are able, please bring a baked good according to the monthly themes (listed below)!  Ensure you bring a tin/box to take leftovers home! Upcoming Themes Kickoff! October - Bring your favorite dessert - show us what you got!  For this month, the opportunities are wide open!  November - Bread/Rolls, sweet or savory, you decide!  December - Our second annual cookie swap! (Separate registration will be required for this month only, listed on our calendar two weeks before.) January - Bring a dessert that is based off of any children's book in our collection.  It can be a literal item or your interpretation!  If you can, bring a copy of the book for a photo op next to your creation! The Delvena Theatre Company will be presenting an interactive production of Jack the Ripper, after hours, on Friday the 13th!  Sponsored generously by the Friends of the Burlington Public Library.   An event for patrons 16+.  Show contains mature content. History comes alive with the infamous Jack the Ripper – the identity of whom was never known! Learn the details of the ghastly murders of five women from London in 1888. Meet the top suspects in the murders. The audience will have the opportunity to question each of the suspects and make their own conclusion as to who the “real” Jack the Ripper was. The cast will open up to the audience also at the end of the show for lively discussion. An edutainment production, written by Fran Baron, the show will feature Joseph Zamparelli, Lynne Moulton and Fran Baron. Joseph Zamparelli is a professional actor, director and producer. A graduate of Boston College (Psychology/Theater Arts) he went on to the professional training program at Circle in the Square Theater School in NYC. In addition to commercial film and television work, he is Producing/Artistic Director of BostonAlive. Lynne Moulton has performed several roles for Delvena Theatre including her IRNE nominated Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Sissy in Piece of My Heart and also for numerous other theatre companies in the New England area. She received her acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art under the direction of Sir Robert Palmer and at Trinity Rep Conservatory. Fran Baron’s most recent roles include Mrs. Patterson, Martha and Evalyn, in Delvena’s All the President’s Women and Narrator and Mrs. Cratchit in The Christmas Carol. She is a playwright, producer and theatrical manager. She received her acting training with Karen Shepard. The Delvena Theatre Company was founded in 1992 and has performed at various venues, most often at the Boston Center for the Arts. The company was nominated for five Independent Reviewers of New England awards. Its production of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' was on Theatre Mirror's Best List for acting, directing and production. Presentations of 'Anna Weiss' and 'Beyond Therapy' were included on Theatre Mirror's best play list and 'Blue Heart' was placed on Aisle Say's best list. Questions? Kids in Kindergarten through grade 5 are welcome to drop into our monthly Lego Club! We'll pull out our bins of Legos and you'll use your imagination to create new structures and scenes that will end up on display in the children's room. We'll also have large Duplo blocks for any younger siblings who tag along! Whether you're already hanging out in the children's room or make a special trip, the back meeting room door will be open to our Lego creators!  A reminder that children under 11 MUST be accompanied by an adult or an older sibling over the age of 11.
