Join us on Zoom for a fun friendly night of trivia! Play solo, or with a team. Trivia questions will be read aloud and displayed in a slide show presentation in Zoom. No webcams or microphones necessary. Please note: While all ages are welcome, trivia questions are geared toward adults in content and challenge rating. Each player/team is responsible for scoring your own answer sheet, so be sure to have paper and pen ready! This is meant to be fun. All scores are on the honor system. Each team must designate a 'scorekeeper' who is responsible for submitting their team's score to the hosts via the Zoom chat at the end of each round. The host will tally the scores and read the standings aloud. Trivia teams can be in the same household, or in different households. If you choose to play with a team, you are responsible for determining ahead of time how your team will communicate with one another. Players will not be able to use the Zoom chat to communicate with one another. Instead, we recommend setting up alternate channels of communication (group text, Google Hangout, FaceTime, etc.) in order to pool team resources. Library staff will not be responsible for facilitating teams or team communications. If possible, have your team's name already chosen and ready before the program begins. For more information, please visit English At Large. Registration is required to regularly attend conversation groups.  Register *****HERE***** The Burlington Public Library has partnered with English At Large to host conversation groups at the library. English At Large conversation groups are groups of 8-12 learners who meet weekly to practice their English speaking skills. The groups provide an opportunity for learners to improve their speaking confidence and meet other adults who are learning English. All groups are free! There is no cost to attend our conversation groups. All adults who want to practice their English speaking skills are welcome at our groups. We recommend that you have at least an intermediate English speaking level. If you can speak on the telephone without too much difficulty, your English speaking       ability is likely at an intermediate level. Conversation groups are not English classes. Our trained volunteers focus mainly on listening and speaking, and less on reading and writing. Our friendly children’s librarians will read a story or two before diving into a different messy activity each week. When the weather is nice, we’ll set up outside the Library in the back lawn near the picnic table, but we’ll be prepared to get messy inside as well. From squishing paint to using stamps, toddlers will have a range of sensory fun before washing up and heading home. The Burlington Public Library is hosting a Summer Reading Kickoff Carnival, a free all-ages event running from 3:30-8PM. This festive Summer Reading celebration will feature entertainment by magician Chris Herrick and musician Melodious Zach, along with various activities to kick off the summer reading season.  Free tickets and information pickup will be available from 3:30-6PM.  Each age group will have a separate game board to pickup for reading incentives over the summer months. Kids in grades 3-8 are invited to join Miss Gina for a fun summer of Dungeons and Dragons sessions! Kids will explore a new dungeon each week and learn the mechanics of the game. During this introductory session, kids will learn the ground rules of the game, set up a character sheet with the help of the Dungeon Master, and establish game table etiquette. Whether you make it to every session or just this one, you'll have a blast learning the ins and outs of a character sheet and building a good table top game character! Dice will be provided, but feel free to bring your own set. A notebook and pencils are also highly recommended, but not required. This program has a capacity of 10 kids and is drop-in until full.
