Clinton residents are invited to a library open house & tour. This is an opportunity to see the state of the library and ask questions about the Town's pending award for a library construction project. Our library is over 120 years old. Our 120-year-old library has beautiful architecture and deep roots in the community, symbolizing generations of learning and civic pride, however, the building lacks modern accessibility, the infrastructure for ever-evolving technology, and efficient systems, making it difficult to meet the needs of today’s patrons. Our Library is more than just a building with books—it is a community space for lifelong learning, connection, and opportunity. Libraries are often viewed as a building that holds books, but our library is so much more! It is a community gathering space, a place for lifelong learning, it allows access to the world outside Clinton for those who may have limited mobility, and opportunities such as our Library of Things where people can check out more than just books. Approximately 20% of the current library building is inaccessible to the public. The building was designed as a library where you walked in and asked for a book, and the librarian would go and find it in the collection, not for public exploration of the stacks. Between that original design and age, wear and tear, a significant portion of the library is not available to the public and that limits the services and programming that the library can currently provide to the community. The MBLC Construction grant program is only offered once every 8–10 years. Without action now, we risk missing out on a substantial funding opportunity that will significantly reduce the cost to local taxpayers. When a grant opportunity comes along to help pay for a big project like this, it’s one of the smartest financial moves a community can make. The reality is, our library will need improvements at some point—whether it’s now, a few years from now, or down the road. As Clinton grows, our library needs to keep up. If we pass on this chance, we’re also passing on funding that could help cover the cost.
