In observance of the spring eqinox kicking off the fish moon, join the Fairhaven Acushnet Land Preservation Trust Land Manager Waban Webquish (Marcus) for a presentation on the annual herring run in nearby Acushnet, Massachusetts. Waban will discuss the ecological importance of these migrating fish, efforts to restore and protect their habitat, and their role in the local watershed. Waban is of Indigenous Wampanoag and Nipmuck heritage and will also share perspectives on the deep cultural connections between Indigenous peoples and the seasonal return of herring—traditions that stretch back thousands of years—and explain how community members can get involved as volunteers to support this important migration and site.  Series Description: The Natural Heritage of Fairhaven series is a collaboration between the Millicent Library, the UUSF Green Sanctuaries, and Climate Reality MA SouthCoast. The Natural Heritage of Fairhaven Series offers free and ongoing programming exploring the rich connections between landscape, ecology, and culture in our coastal community.
