REGISTER NOWJoin Melissa Goodwin for a refreshing and accessible chair yoga workshop designed for individuals of all ages and abilities who want to maintain and increase vitality. Whether you’re new to yoga or looking for a gentler practice, this workshop will guide you through mindful movements, gentle stretches, and relaxation techniques that can be performed seated in a chair. This yoga experience allows anybody to go deeper in poses and breathing exercises than they would be able to go on a yoga mat. Develop mobility and strength through a sequence of poses and movements, focusing especially on breath, balance, and flexibility. A native New Englander and Falmouth resident, Melissa Goodwin is a long-time yoga teacher with nearly 20 years of yoga teaching experience. Certified in Hatha, Restorative, and somatic movement practices, Melissa combines accessible-to-all physical sequences that promote flexibility, strength, and balance with centering practices that quiet the mind and promote a sense of calm. Her classes are focused, joyful, and fun. Classes run Mondays and Fridays 10:30-11:30. Please register for your selected dates. Every Saturday an exhibiting artist from the Second Chances (Fiber Arts) exhibit will be available at Highfield Hall in the gallery, showcasing their artistry and answering questions. The artist in the gallery on Saturday, May 9th will be Lorraine Gentile Haymes, and she will be available from 10 am – 2 pm. More about Lorraine Gentile Haynes: Lorraine Gentile Haynes (b. 1948, Quincy, Massachusetts) is a mixed-media/textile artist whose work explores intersections of heritage, materials and imagination through her textile art. She earned a BFA from SuSolk University and completed studies at Il Bisonte Foundation of Art in Florence, Italy and multiple programs at Mass College of Art and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Her art concentration shifted to textiles in 2015 when she moved to Cape Cod where she was exposed to the work of inspiring artists. This time period also opened her to consideration of the exposure, influence and effect on her life of a family history of Italian women who lived and worked textiles, her mother’s artistry as a tailor and clothing designer during the WWII era, and Lorraine’s love of creating art from found textiles. Lorraine lives in Mashpee with her artist husband, Ric Haynes. Lorraine’s work can be seen at Lorraine.Gentile.Haynes.art on Instagram.

Register NowGrammy-nominated pianist and vocalist Judy Carmichael, one of the world’s leading interpreters of stride piano and swing is coming to Highfield! Count Basie was so taken with Carmichael’s playing that he gave her the nickname “Stride”. She has taken her infectious style of music and her equally infectious personality to Carnegie Hall, Jazz Festival Brazil, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Tanglewood Jazz Festival. For 25 years Judy has produced and hosted Judy Carmichael’s Jazz Inspired which broadcasts on NPR stations and podcasts. Her memoir, Swinger! A Jazz Girl’s Adventures From Hollywood To Harlem was published in 2018 and her book, Great Inspirations: 22 Years of Jazz Inspired on NPR was published in 2022.
