This closing event features a panel discussion with 2nd Chances artists, moderated by Joanne Ingersoll, Highfield’s Director of Exhibitions and Interpretation. Gain unique insight from these women who have balanced art careers with family and professional lives as they share how they integrate unexpected materials to create works far outside the typical scope of the genre. By challenging conventional thinking, Fiber Fusion successfully expands the dialogue of what fiber art can encompass today. A native New Englander and Falmouth resident, Melissa Goodwin is a long-time yoga teacher with nearly 20 years of yoga teaching experience. Certified in Hatha, Restorative, and somatic movement practices, Melissa combines accessible-to-all physical sequences that promote flexibility, strength, and balance with centering practices that quiet the mind and promote a sense of calm. Register NowHighfield Hall & Gardens, together with PFLAG Cape Cod, invites you to an engaging and personal discussion with Paul Glass and Charles D. Evans about their 50-year love story, their journeys, and their activism in the community. While raised in different parts of the country, their drive to give back to their community was ingrained in them both since childhood. Unbeknownst to them at the time, they were both at the Stonewall uprising in New York City in 1969, an event that signaled a major turning point in LGBT+ liberation. Over the years, they have volunteered in the community in numerous ways, including food pantries, Cape Cod Pride, HIV+ advocacy, and much more, and in 2023 they were awarded the AARP Massachusetts Andrus Award for Community Service. Especially notable is the organization they founded: LGBTQ+ Elders of Color, which raises awareness and visibility for LGBTQ+ older adults of color.Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Come and enjoy a tail-waggin afternoon as you meet other four-legged friends, fellow doggie enthusiasts, and local animal organizations. This outdoor family event honors the joy that dogs bring into our lives. From our fun costume parade contest to our hysterical agility course competition, Hounds of Highfield has something for everyone.  Local food vendors will be on site. Receive a “blessing of the animals” from Reverend Nell Fields of Waquoit Congregational Church and sit back on the lawn, listening to local musician Michael Oakland.
