This two-hour workshop will introduce participants to the art of needle felting with a simple beginner’s project of felted acorns. This project will utilize a variety of felting needles and techniques that are used to sculpt wool fiber into three-dimensional shapes. Workshop supplies will be provided by the library and participants will be given a resource list should they wish to continue the craft on their own. Community Legal Aid’s Fair Housing Project assists renters who have been treated unfairly because of their race, religion, sex, color, national origin, disability, and familial status in Central and Western Massachusetts. GPL is pleased to welcome local author Corinne Demas for a local author talk on her most recent novel, Daughters, a moving story about the sometimes volatile but ultimately unbreakable bonds between mothers and daughters.Daughters tells the story of Meredith’s flight home to New England, daughter Eloise in tow, where she leaves her husband and a life back in LA. A heartbreaking loss is killing their marriage. So she looks to her mother and siblings for the support she desperately needs, and the love her daughter surely deserves―two things her husband can’t seem to provide.Corinne Demas is the author of 39 books including two collections of short stories, seven novels, a memoir, a collection of poetry, two plays, and numerous books for children. She is a professor emeritus of English at Mount Holyoke College and a fiction editor of the Massachusetts Review. She grew up in New York City, in Stuyvesant Town, the subject of her memoir, Eleven Stories High, Growing Up in Stuyvesant Town, 1948-1968. She attended Hunter College High School, graduated from Tufts University, and completed a Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. She lived in Pittsburgh for a number of years, teaching at the University of Pittsburgh and at Chatham College.Books will be available for purchase at the event, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library.

Let’s make stars together. There are several different paper stars that you can make. We will start with the easiest and make as many as we have time for. Most are a form of modular origami. We will cut, fold, assemble and sometimes glue to create these beautiful stars that make lovely hanging decorations as well as can enhance your gift wrapping. You will be able to select from a variety of papers. All materials are provided.Join accomplished paper crafter and instructor Marsha Leavitt for the first in a series of paper folding classes. Space is limited, pre-registration is required.
