Renowned psychologist Jean Piaget notes, “Play is the work of childhood.” and Mr. Rogers bolstered this statement by stating “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.” Support the young child in your life and drop in for Open Play at the Langley-Adams Library! This unstructured open play program for little ones and caregivers provides space and opportunity for social interaction with community families. Children practice problem-solving, social skills, imaginative play and critical thinking when given moments to wonder and experiment without instruction. Developmentally-appropriate books and toys will be provided for open-ended, hands-on play in a safe space. Open to ages 0-5 with a caregiver. What to expect in kid yoga class: Yoga helps children improve their flexibility, balance, coordination, and overall physical well-being. Children learn different breathing techniques, like belly breathing or box breathing, to help them calm their minds & bodies. Yoga poses are adapted to be fun and engaging for children, often using themes like animals and incorporates games to keep them entertained and make it more relatable. The class includes creative activities that help children develop mindfulness and relaxation skills, like guided meditations. Classes often encourage interaction to fostering social skills and a sense of community. Yoga can help children manage stress, reduce anxiety, and improve their self-esteem and emotional regulation. Come and meet local mystery author Michael Sinclair! Michael writes the Sloane Sheppard detective mystery series. Michael's books are set in the 1920's. Because of this, Michael has put together a slide show about the 1920's. He plans to share this first as a lead in to discussing his books. Raise Your Glass to Murder is book 5 in this series. Michael will bring copies along to sell in case anyone is interested. He graciously donated all 5 books to our library,  and they are available for borrowing!  About the first book An Unfortunate Coincidence:  January 1928, young librarian Megan Cary lives with her wealthy philandering  husband, Adam, on Central Park South. Mysteriously....Adam dies during a weekend trip to Albany. The police (and her mother-in-law) are quick to close the case because Meg found a suicide note. Not convinced that Adam would commit suicide, Megan hires private detective Sloane Sheppard. Det. Sheppard's investigation and begins unraveling family secrets... To learn more, you'll need to come and/or read the book!  About the author:  Michael moved here from Albany, New York.
