Buried in Treasures is a 16-week series which will be held once a week on Monday afternoons at 2 PM at Brooks Free Library. Led by a trained volunteer coordinator, this series is a compassionate, non-judgmental program that empowers you to understand your clutter, build practical organizing skills, and create lasting change. Suitable for every level of clutter—from everyday disorganization to excessive collecting and hoarding tendencies—this program meets you where you are and supports progress without shame. Registration is not required but participants are asked to make a commitment to attend the full series. Workbooks will be provided at no cost to attendees. Kids of all ages can build contraptions to serve a purpose: a boat that can float 20 pennies, or a tower that will stand up to high winds from a fan, or a contraption that will protect an egg dropped from the top of the ladder. This program meets on the fourth Thursday of every month.This is a free, drop in program. Children eight and under should be accompanied by an adult, children under 10 should have an adult somewhere in the building. This is a craft program. Want to learn about researching your family history, discover information on ancestors, and build a family tree? This free, six-part course presented by Dr. David Martin of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society will include methods of genealogical research and techniques for tracking down data and organizing your family tree. Courses will take place on six successive Fridays, starting March 13th, from 1 to 2:30 pm in the Thornton Meeting Room at Brooks Free Library. Topics for the sessions include an overview of genealogical research; information on immigration and migration; discussion on the US Census as a genealogical tool; examination of the use of DNA as a research tool; considering the use of Land and Probate records; and the presentation of two actual case studies of thorny genealogical puzzles, techniques for solving "brick walls" while researching family histories, and planning your future genealogical research.There is no charge for this program and it is recommended that attendees plan to participate in each Friday session to benefit most from the course.Registration not required, but recommended to assist in course preparation.
