Loo-Loos: Restroom Gender Signs explores gender from a theme that connects with all of us – the public bathroom! Chester describes Loo-Loos as “a collection of restroom gender signs that say more than ‘men, women, ladies, or gentleman.’  They are, elegant, colorful, and corny….I photographed these signs over many years on travels through the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, France, Iceland and England.” The Loo-Loos exhibition is highly relevant at this time in light of nationwide discussions on gender and restroom accessibility. An exclusive, limited edition Loo-Loos catalog will be available in the CCMoA Museum Shop. Sublime to Ridiculous highlights the unique and humorous vantage point of Mark Chester through a selection of photographic prints selected from a lifetime of freelance photography, beginning in 1972. The images show slices of life, from whimsy to poignancy. They show a dedication of being seriously silly and seriously serious. They are pictures of people, places and things that have touched him in some emotional, intellectual and whimsical way. For Cape Cod Museum of Art’s Annual International Juried Exhibition, artists from across the USA and around the world were invited to submit their original artwork on the theme Dreamscapes and Inner Worlds. 725 artworks were submitted by 464 artists – a record number of entries for our Annual International Exhibition! A Celebration of First Light: Wampanoag Art and Stories Illuminate Cotuit Center for the Arts COTUIT, MA – Cotuit Center for the Arts is thrilled to present All Our Relations: Art of the Wampanoag Nation, a month-long, campus-wide celebration of the enduring artistry, history, and living culture of the People of the First Light. Anchored by a major exhibition of Wampanoag visual art, this dynamic series also includes live performances in the Main Theater and Sigel Black Box Theater, offering audiences a powerful and multifaceted experience of Wampanoag creativity. The Gallery Exhibition will encompass multiple artistic disciplines of a wide variety of Wampanoag artists from generation Z to baby boomers. “This show is dedicated to all our relations because we are not here alone, and we did not endure without the courage and determination of our ancestors.” Said Paula Peters, a Mashpee Wampanoag who has co-curated the show with CCftA board member Michelle St. John.  “With this vibrant showcase of art in diverse forms that bridge our traditional culture with contemporary life, we honor them.” All Our Relations will feature the work of nearly 20 artists who are citizens of the Mashpee and Aquinnah federally acknowledged tribes, as well as the works of artists from the Herring Pond, Chappaquiddick bands of Wampanoag all influenced by their tribal heritage and cultural experience. The show will include unique works that bridge traditional culture with contemporary life in paintings in acrylic and watercolor, digital art, pottery, wood carvings, beadwork, wampum, and deerskin regalia. All Our Relations Gallery Exhibit will open May 30 and run through June 29.The Opening Reception is scheduled for May 31 from 5 to 7PM. The first film, a musical Mae West movie from the 1930s, will be shown free on Thursday, March 6, with doors opening at 5:30 pm as an after business hours gathering in the indoor tavern of Smith Family Beer Garden on Main Street in Hyannis.ABOUT THE MOVIE:Set in New Orleans in the 1890s, West sings with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, introducing to viewers the now-classic torch song My Old Flame.
