Join us at Jamaica Pond with Michael Bryant, aka Nature Man Mike, to look for spring migrants and resident birds. This two-hour walk is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced birders.  Limited loaner binoculars will be available to borrow on a first come, first serve basis, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have them.  This walk will involve walking on paved surfaces as well as dirt and grass paths. NOTE: We will meet at the boathouse/canoe dock at Jamaica Pond at 9 am on Friday, May 23, NOT at the Connolly Branch. The Connolly Branch is listed as the location simply so more patrons can become aware of this event. The boathouse/canoe dock is at 507 Jamaicaway, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130. Michael Bryant, aka Nature Man Mike, is a professional photographer, photography workshop instructor, local bird walk guide, and host of international bird photography tours and workshops. He has twenty years of experience as a nature photographer and fifteen years as a professional photographer. "Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics" is a solo acrobatic performance. Li Liu performs hand balancing, plate spinning, ribbon dancing, diabolos, and foot juggling. A limited number of volunteers get to join her on stage to create an impromptu ribbon dance, and also to try their hand at plate spinning. Educational connections are made with the Chinese language and culture. Li explains some of the rituals of Chinese New Year, teaches the audience some basic Chinese phrases, and encourages them to think about what it might have been like to grow up in a different time and place. Reduce, reuse, create with Luminous Yes Creative!  In "Using It All: Creating Beauty & Meaning from Scraps," participants will spend two hours crafting their own visions from fashion magazines, vintage ephemera, art books, calendars, old travel brochures, cookbooks, maps, and more. Materials provided will spark the imagination and provide doorways to creativity. Come let your mind move through your hands and see what happens! There is no wrong way to collage. Some guidance and examples will be provided.  All levels of experience are welcome.  This workshop is limited to 10 participants. Shari Caplan is the owner and founder of Luminous Yes Creative. She is an artist, poet, and producer whose work aims to reinvigorate our collective imaginative potential. Shari’s personal collage style ranges and is ever-evolving. Her work includes seamless surrealism that makes the impossible appear in visions redolent with fairy tale symbolism, still life collage with sculptural heft and a minimalist aesthetic, scrap collage, an intuitive color-based approach which uses every bit of previously discarded paper, and the incorporation of poetry into image.
